I Exist by tdkim I Exist by tdkim
You know, people are always saying that I'm not unique: that none of us are. And you know what? They're right.

The fact is; there have been, there are, and there will be a million other people just like me - who dress like me, look like me, talk like me, and think like me. Futhermore any actual uniqueness on my part is only due to the external world by which I'm influenced, which is also inclusive of all human history. Hence, with all this repetition, it is only logical to concluded that I CANNOT be, and thus AM NOT unique.

However, be that as it may; despite the validity in these comments, despite the fact that my mind is only what it is due to the external influences by which it has developed, despite the fact that my very consciousness is, EVEN NOW, continually pumped with sorts of 'information', despite the fact that I find myself tangled in all of it, this nonsense that we call culture, knowledge, wisdom, thought, and so forth, despite the fact that my scope of vision, perception, and ability to understand is limited by those very things that make me the person I am, and despite the truth in ALL of these things, I have not forgotten this, the most basic of truths.

it seems we all struggle to maintain our own identities. there's an originality within all us of waiting to surface in all its glory. ~tdkim seems to have found it, tenfold. throughout his remarkable gallery i was wowed by his concepts and design cues. I Exist stood out to me as the most attractive piece in his collection. it shows a wonderful example of all the energy waiting to be unleashed from our minds. not to mention the excellent painting skill he possesses. if you don't look at this, you'll regret it. Great image, though I don't agree that everyone is the same ... equal yes ...but different... You are even a different person made up of different atoms every day -

I don't beleive in this uniqueness because I want to safely feel that we are some special species ... we are not ! but I can't deny that every living individual is unique.

This is like saying that you went to china (after living all your life in some little European town) and everybody looked the same ... yes it does happen if you've never seen a Chinese person before ..but after staying there for a while you'll start seeing people as individuals (no offence to chinese ppl of course !!) - which I guess says a lot about how well you know humanity :) - the way you are thinking is like trying to look at the big picture..but with your head inside a nice little dark box.

This is a ver cool pic by the way,
but tell me this, what 2 people on this entire planet are identical?! there is none, therefore we ARE all unique, its just that the differences can seem so miniscule at times.

Great piece. It's great impact, immediate, but sophisticate.

Thus, I don't agree with you. we might be millions who dress the same way, act the same way, talk the same way. but there will always be something that makes everyone of us different from each other.

off topic: I'm sorry for the babbling but I just cleared out metal gear 2 in a 3 days hardcore full immersion. Man i love that game.

i must say... your comment on your art is the filter which i have always used in percieving others.
it becomes such a difficult task, by such filtration im not sure if my subconsciouse self is really caring more, or just no longer giving a damn.
but anyhow,
yeah. i know what you feel like.
its in the back of my fucking head every moment of this life, poking and proding as it will, i think you know what i mean. and if not... well im sure you do.
take care.

Back when I was struggleing to gain self confidence, I wrote on my hand 'I exist', because as long as I remembered that, I didn't feel as vulnerble or useless. It always made me feel more confident in myself. The knowlage that I existed. Thanks for your devidation.. I can relate in so many ways

You know, people are always saying that I'm not unique: that none of us are. And you know what? They're right.

"This is your one opportunity to do something that no one has ever done before and that no one will copy throughout human existence. And if nothing else, you will be remembered as the one guy who ever did this one thing." ~Sam from Garden State

Doing that one thing would make you unique, whether it's doing a crazy random step while saying 'blah.' ;)

Sure, we all exsist, and none of us are completely 'unique.' We would never be liked if we were truly unique.

Well one of the main Zen precepts is the idea that uniqueness is only a flaw in the human ego which in itself is flawed. There is no such thing as the 'individual' no single thing exists apart from the world around it. You are the universe and the universe is you....it's a pretty difficult philosophy to wrap the mind around.........x

I disagree. no one person has ever been through the exact same life that you have, and therefore cannot be influenced in the same ways, and so you think, act, look, etc. differently than everyone else in the world. however slightly, you are still unique. besides, even if someone looks like me and someone else speaks like I do, there is no one besides me who speaks, acts, looks, and thinks exactly like me.

however, I do love your painting. I interpreted the person stuck in the chords as our own unique self that's trying to break out of the world's expectation of what we are. but then, that's just me.

Rarely do I see thoughts expressed that well, with that intensity. You make your point very clear, without making it over-simple and as a bonus, I agree with the point itself. That's talent not found often and I must say I admire it.

I'm normaly not into this kind of art but the description is what makes me have to post. Technically, into the most profound explanation: We are unique by the timing that we exist in, the dimension we exist in, and the fact that for us to be non-unique, we would have to have someone with the identical molecules in the identical location/position in space in the same time (which is proven impossible because, in short story, all existance would cancel it's self and nothing would exist). But like we know, we all exist. I might now know if you exist, but hell - I know I do.

Now, since art is not a technical thing when it becomes a true expression... will someone eventually have the EXACT personality as us? Yes if history is neglected... however some things that begin NEVER end, such as light. Then I can go on to the butterfly effect and such and blah and blah... Possible someone will eventualy have identical experiences and personality as us? EXTREMELY under VERY SPECIFIC circumstances. But you know what else? The chances of us being unique or unique are both infinite... and infinite chances against infinite chances = either 0 for both (Which would mean we don't exist, so it can't be) OR 1 for each which is to say there's an equal chance for both.

In other words, everything I've just said is completely contradictory to everything I've said and it also means ignore what I just said since it basicly says it might be and it might not be true.

Creative, Profound, Thought Provoking, even makes me sound like a physics major at the age of 14...
