I have finished my 2018 USAww pic!  Yay!  Unfortunately, this will likely be the lest of these I'm ever going to do, or at the very least, the last one I feel obligated to do.  From now on, I'll only do a 4th of July pic if the mood strikes and time permits.  Getting this one done was a real bitch.

Well, crap.  Sad to hear that but you know what you can do, what you're capable of.

Quit while you're on top! These things should be fun, not work... ...there are other projects for work and stress and deadlines. You had a nice run on this.

Maybe now you have time for your Jean (she's back and her new X-Men Red costume looks promising, I might just do a version myself.) and Rogue galleries ;-) No pressure and all in good time.

Thanks for all the hard work and great art over the years.

OMG, I'm so behind in comics now that I have no idea what's up with Jean Grey and the Phoenix.  I know that young Jean was brought from the past (I've read that far) and has branched out on her own a bit, and that something happened between her Hope Summers and the Phoenix, but I have no idea what (don't spoil it for me).  Now I hear that 616 Jean is coming back again?  Or is already back?  Yeah, I have no idea where to take the Jean Grey Retrospective series at this point.  I'd have to do some serious research to move forward with it again.  Frankly, at this point, I'd be more inclined to start over from the beginning...  But that's a LOT of work.  I'm WAY too lazy for that.

Cat, I think it says lazy behind it in the dictionary... :-D

Without giving spoilers that you won't find in the catalogue:

Young Jean has been back for a while, and in my mind she has been given a great new outfit in her own series. I'm not touching that one though, it screams minor. I do think they did fun and interesting things with the time displaced X-Men as a whole. I've even come up with new theories as to why Warren hated Wolverine so much when they first met... It will all need to be resolved at some point though.

Adult Jean is back too and currently running her own color coded group of X-Men, but these color coded series are closing down again as Uncanny will be making it's grand reentry in October with a 10 issue weekly run 'deciding the fate of the X-Men' once more... This costume I might want to take a shot at.

The ending of Uncanny X-Men was a travesty, and a ridiculously stupid move.  I'm looking forward to reboot #4.

You know, I don't even remember... ...and that in itself is something... ...was that the whole beast is a 'bad doggie' episode? That was dreadful.

Gold was mostly a fun read featuring some of my favorite X-Men. Blue so much as I have read it was entertaining and they were doing something completely different. Red is somewhat heavy on the hate mutants agenda, but has some fun (new?) characters.

Weirdly I am also looking forward to the whole 10 weekly issues madness that is supposed to be the uncanny reboot. I even ordered X-Men Black, or as they should have called it: 'What are some of your favorite X-Villains up to these days'

I have no idea what you're talking about with the Beast reference.  I'm still reading books from 2014.  I think I'm technically in the middle of the INHUMANITY arc, but I decided to skip that one.  I haven't read AXIS or Civil War II or whatever big event happened after that...  Secret Wars?  Nor the Death of Wolverine.  Nor any Marvel Star Wars issue.  I read maybe one comic book a month these days (although I keep buying them every week like a dumbass).  So I'm a little clueless when it comes to current events.  Or 4-year-old events.

Clear.

Boy and I thought I was bad, I´m only a few months behind on my reading, and that´s mainly because my comic book store is in another town I don´t visit as often as I used to. I also have a stack of back issues I still have to read, but all in all it´s a stack of about 30 cm, so managable.

As I read it, you should either pick up your reading pace, or start buying less comic books. Still, not buying now could mean never being able to get your hands on, as printruns are so low these days...

Are you that busy with work and life, or just not that interested in comics anymore?

My backlog literally fills three longboxes.  Its a result of three things: an unwillingness to dedicate time to it other than when I got to bed, the fact that I got to bed at stupidly late hours (it's not uncommon for me to be racing the sunrise), and the fact that I also reserve bedtime for iPad games.  Before I got an iPad, I read a comic or two every night.  Then I started reading a comic and playing iPad games.  Then I started going to bed so late that I only had time to do one of these things, and the daily login bonuses for games compelled me to choose that activity.  Luckily, Marvel took their books in directions that I didn't like, and made me stop caring about most of their characters, and I've been able to whittle my pull list down to a handful of titles (all X-Men, all Star Wars, Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man, Pathfinder, and Lady Mechanica).  I actually just recently dropped Amazing Spider-Man, leaving just the Miles Morales Spider-Man book (and honestly, without Bendis, is that one still worth reading?).  They've recently brought Thor back, so I may add that one as well, as I like Thor and generally tend to collect his solo titles, and I also tend to pick up any Kick-Ass-related books, like Hit-Girl.  And that's really it.  I went from a $50/week habit to $20/week.  I really need to stop buying things like EVERY Star Wars book and just stick to the main title.  I mean, do I really care about Poe Dameron?  Not really, and yet, I keep buying his solo title every month just because its Star Wars.  And who the fuck is Doctor Aphra?  I have no idea, but I have every one of her issues.  I'm just compelled to buy anything with the Star Wars logo on it, I guess.

Sad to hear your pulling the plug on the WW-4-7 project. I get it though, there are only so many ways you can draw a character before it gets old, and deadlines for hobby projects are a thing you really don't need, even if they are self imposed.

Yeah, I'm just tired of feeling obligated to do one every year.  This year was particularly difficult due to real-life happenings which forced me to abandon it until almost a month later.  I'll keep doing the Star Wars day pics (when I can) since those are small pencil drawings and are relatively quick and easy, but otherwise, I'm pretty well done with this series.  That doesn't mean I won't ever do one again, just that I'm no longer going to stress over it.  Since 1996, I've only missed two, one (1999) because I lacked a working scanner and the other (2013) because I just plain forgot.

Well, don't give it all up. That's all I ask. I've known far too many artists that have retired, and if the retiring is like retiring from any other occupation, it'll suck.

I have no plans to "officially" stop any time soon.  I barely have the time to dedicate to this anymore so I only get two or three drawings done a year, but I still enjoy it so I figure I'll keep doing it whenever I can.  I've been chugging along for 22 years now, so I figure I might as well keep going.  :-)

Hey, I appreciate it.  Hopefully, I'll be able to do more of these in the future.  I'm just not going to go out of my way to get one done every year nor get stressed out if I miss one.  Hopefully, though, my 4th of July's will not be as... eventful as this year's and I'll be able to keep it up.
