Build Notes

Starting on the shotgun bandolier on the gauntlets;

Again I drafted out how I wanted the layout to be before cutting the foam itself. Once I got something that looked good using the gym mats from before I cut out and glued to the base gauntlets the foam spacers for the shotgun shells.

For the shotgun shells themselves, those are cut from thin plastic tubes acquired from cheap dollar store bicycle hand pumps with the aid of a rotary tool.

Cutting the tubes in half and to length carefully I then glued small PVC semicircles to the back of them to simulate the look of a shotgun shell and then set them all into place around the gauntlet.

To top it all off the outermost covers of the gauntlets were cut out, shaped with a heat gun and attached to the rest of the prop.

From here on it’s now just a matter of attaching the gun barrels to the front and begin the process of sealing the foam to get it ready for painting so stay tuned.

How do you put your hand through? is it snug to the wrist?
Tatsutetsu's avatar

Omg this is so freaking awesome ! I love how you put the pieces together, makes them feel so much more realistic ! You are making me wants doing my next cosplays weapons better (I never do something THAT accurate). It's impressive, good job.

I'm gonna make Yang's cosplay, if you don't mind i'll use your wip to make my own :D

So accurate! Can't wait to see the final product~
What do you normally use to seal foam?
Tatsutetsu's avatar
Thank you! ^_^

The plan is to mix a 1:1 ratio of PVA glue and water and do multiple coats with a paint brush until I have a decent enough surface to then apply primer then paint.

Don't mention it ^^

I look forward to it! your Yang and the rest of your group's RWBY cosplays turned out great so the more photos the better :D

:33 Thank you very much. I didn't get much photos on my camera so I'm waiting for a friend to upload a lot of her's (and she does a better job of editing her pictures, lol). I should be able to put up a couple more, but we're also having another photoshoot with a great photographer in August, so hopefully more photos then! (and hopefully my Ember Celica looks better then! 8D)

If i may ask because i forgot to ask this before. What is the material used for the end part of the gauntlet in the 2nd last photo? It's the wooden looking stuff or what ever the heck it is XD.
Tatsutetsu's avatar
That is PVC sheeting, its kind of like a thin but very rigid plastic sheet. theses ones I'm using used to be promotional displays at a department store so there is an image on the back of them.
Dingo-Sniper's avatar
ah, would you have any idea where i would be able to get my hands on the PVC sheeting at all? (fellow Aussie here XD)
Tatsutetsu's avatar
other than online I'm not too sure if we have many suppliers here, all the ones I have I scavenged from old promotional displays from a department store

You may want to try an industrial district or possibly some hobby shops, but with hobby shops the sheets are probably very small

Nice, they look like they're coming along great.
