After watching "A Movie Life" (dir Selton Melo, Brazil, 2017), I had to model the great Rolando Boldrin as Giuseppe, the train conductor.

Software used: PureRef, ZBrush, Substance Painter, UVLayout, 3dsMax, Photoshop, Ornatrix and VRay.

Thank you so much, Shohn! It really took a while to do (although not as much as the curly hair of Puri Puri!).

The best thing about it is that the hairs look like actual individual follicles. If I were to approach it in a 3d sculpting program (I'm thinking Mudbox), I would have to sculpt those details out and use a few paint texture layers to approximate that look.

These hairs are done like you said: simulating individual poils. Other technique is hair cards, which are mainly used in games. But it's quite difficult!

you are talented, would love to find time to play with zbrush.

It has more to do with patience than with talent! haha! I bet you can do pretty well if you switch to ZBrush! ;)

lol I have mastered a few software in my time lol
there comes a time you give up enough is enough.
from rhino and medusa  to autodesk max2000  to vue 5 to 10

I now rest playing in daz studio free  and save thousands of dollars I wasted on all those software in the past.
but im happy and do my best to make daz look like VUE OR octane render etc.:happybounce: :happybounce: :happybounce:

I know what you mean. I'm 47. But there's no way to get better, right? Anyway, there is a lot of incredibly good free or very cheap software nowadays!

This could almost pass as a photograph with that kind of detail and lighting. Love it!

I saw them, and I must say: I love them. You do such a great job at emulating realism in your works!
