Hermie the hermit crab needs a new seashell. He's getting too big for the one he has now! So Hermie goes looking for a shell which will fit him.
After a while, he finds a nice big brown seashell. Hermie looks it over, but he thinks it has too many holes in it. A shell with holes can't keep Hermie safe and warm, so Hermie sighs and leaves it behind.
Then, a robin lands next to Hermie. "What are you doing?" she asks.
"Looking for a new shell," he tells her.
"My chicks just left their shells. I could get one for you if you like," the little bird offers. With that, she flies off to her nest.
Hermie waits for the robin to come back, and after a minute a pale blue eggshell drops in front of Hermie.
"Oh," Hermie says. "Thank you, but this won't work." He doesn't want to hurt the robin's feelings, but the eggshell is not the right shape or size for him. He needs a seashell to move into.
"I'm sorry," says the robin, but Hermie thanks her again and crawls away.
