Theater Portfolio III

By tarkheki
I recently applied for a Theater Design Position at a local Theater Company that deals specifically with Aboriginal contents. While they are not looking to hire now, I decided to try my luck anyhow. :)

The Portfolio is called “Evolution” and deals with the transformation of the Oral traditions into Contemporary Theater- passing via the written word [script] and Visual Arts (Costume, Set, Etc).

Seen here, the Third set of concepts- and the final quick rendition of how it is to be presented, and looks on stage.

It was to be expected that I would include something NWP in my portfolio. And I decided to add 2 concepts- one for 2 particularly specific and different concepts.
As with the Aztecs design, the existing regalia for the NWP aboriginal peoples are very accommodating to movement- since they were used in dancing as well. However the visibility of the masks could sometimes be questioned, I kept mine "forehead oriented" so that actors could have full visibility.
Wolf looks very confused. :)

Your designs are always lovely. I like the glove. And the masks are really nice. Great work! ^^

Looks very beautiful. The colors you used give it a real mystical feel that could easily be translated onto the stage. Good luck!

All of these are great! The style, technique, emotion, and costumes in general are really appealing. Good luck with getting the position!

Thank you!
However, one correction- these are "outfits". In aboriginal communities, calling an outfit a "costume" is considered an insult. :)

I hope I get the position too... I would LOVE it! XD

Ah! I'm sorry! No insults were intended ;)

Clearly understandable, I just correct if people say, so that they won't be in a serious position one day if they make that mistake. :giggle:
THank you for your compassion!

This reminds me of your animation.

Pure coincidence?

.... I wouldn't think so considering that they both are based on the same aboriginal cultures and concepts. :)

These designs ROCK!!! X3 If they don't give you the job they would be idiots!
tarkheki's avatar
Well, that would be untruthful- they might have other things to consider. :)

i still think they should choose you and there is no changing my mind >:3

This, (and your other designs) look completely and utterly fantastic! You've put so much thought and creativity into this folio ... just, wow. (Plus it's very obvious that you enjoyed working on it xD)
I would definately pay to come and see a production that uses this sort of costuming and style.
Best of luck, I hope you get the position ^^

Thank you!
I did love doing it- and it DID take me some time. But it's pride and joy for me.
Let's pray they receive it as well as it's been received here!

Tis my favorite solely because Wolf looks so confused XD

That and the thought of those eyes glowing make me giddy.

Oh, Abalone. Truly a shell that takes advantage of lighting in every lighting scenario. XD

They all look so fantastic! I hope you get the position. :D

I'm loving Raven's wings. <3

Thank you!
Just designing something a kin to traditional regalia with a twist. "Glove" hands to give that wing effect. :)
