Commission for Aidan-Gull
This is one of those commissions where everything that could go wrong did, but I kept belting away at every problem as it arose.

I wanted to watercolour the BG originally, and then overlay the character like a cell. Originally, I sketched the image in my sketchbook and wanted to print the line art on my waterclour paper. The WC paper I purchased was thin enough for my printer- but also a lesser grade quality.
After printing the line art and applying the first wash, the paper was FAR to porous, buckled, and the ink ran. I had to dry it off, and attempt 3 more washes in varying degrees of pigment to fix it.

By this juncture, I had conceded that the paper was not giving me the best quality, so I scanned it in to the computer, fixed some of the saturation [the original is very unsaturated], adjusted highlights and some of the lighting effects, and then added the character.

The end result I AM happy with, and I hope Aidan likes this interpretation of Kaia.

Also, I adjusted some slight colours on her- giving her the characteristic sealion dark ear, and the tips of her fins a soft darker gradient.

Wow...this is so pretty! I'm sorry to hear about the process; that must have been rough. :/ But at least you got through it and everything worked out. This gal looks incredible! :)

Rough but worth it. If anything, art taught me that confronting a bad issue actually resolves it in a better way than if it went smoothly. The conflict helps bring out a full potential!
