FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If your question is not answered in the following, feel free to comment below! :) We are happy to help you and guide you through what you want to do.

I joined the group... now what?
First and foremost, check out the newbie guide. A lot of information is there that you may find interesting, such as how to get your first Tark'ee.
You can also create art of other people's Tark'ee or the Deities and gain Silver for this, join in on discussions, roleplay, or just stalk.

How do I get my first Tark'ee?
Upon joining, you are automatically awarded an Adoption Token. You can use this to adopt 1 Tark'ee free of charge from the Adoption Center.
If none of those take your fancy, check out the Marketplace or the Advertisements Folder to see what's available for sale.

What is Silver? How do I get more of it?
Silver is the in-game currency for the Tark'ee Group. You can purchase a range of Tark'ee, services, items and more using Silver.
To get Silver, you can sell Tark'ee to other players or drop off Tark'ee at the Adoption Center, complete quests, battle in The Pit, sell items back to the shop, or trade other services to other players for their Silver.

How do I breed my Tark'ee?
First and foremost, your Tark'ee needs to have completed their Rights of Passage. Refer to this guide on Rites completion.
Once both Tark'ee have completed their Rites, you will need Tribute (confirmation art) in order to breed. If you don't own one or more of the Tark'ee, then you will need breeding permission from the owner.
You can find more information on breeding here,  and you can submit your breed request here.

Can I breed my Tark'ee with another person's?
Yes.
However all people involved must agree to it. They must comment on the relevant Breeding Request by you agreeing to the breeding.
The conditions of the breeding (such as finances, items, art, clutch split, etc) are up to you guys to organise.

How many hatchlings will I get?
Each species of Tark'ee has it's own average clutch size. You can find this information on the Species Information Sheet.
You can increase the max clutch size using items obtainable through the Apothecary, or Joyful Miranda's Joyful Emporium. Other things may impact clutch size, such as Fertility and Familiars.

How do I sell Tark'ee?
Check out the Advertisements folder on DA, or the Advertisements forum. You may find people looking for Tark'ee that yours suit.
Alternatively, you can advertise your Tark'ee for sale and someone may stumble across it.

Is there a place I can RP with my Tark'ee and Handlers?
Yes there is~! Currently, the Tark'ee group has a forum which you may visit. There, you'll be able to join in various fun roleplays, develop personalities for your characters, and even create in-depth profiles for them!
You may visit the forums here.

I no longer want my Tark'ee. What do I do?
If all else fails - you are able to 'release' the Tark'ee, which will place them up for adoption in the Adoption Center.
You will gain Silver for each Tark'ee you release to the Adoption Center.

How can I level up my Tark'ee?
You need to have a tracker of their gained xp.
This tracker will be your proof when you submit your level up request. Only submit your request if you believe your Tark'ee has met the requirements.
You can find XP Payouts here for art. And you may submit level up requests here.

I keep seeing people posting approvals by other people in split clutches. Where do I get one?
Other players may sometimes offer breeding slots in exchange for services, or split clutches.
The person who gives you approval in this split slot will post a comment on the Breeding Approvals thread.
If you want to give a breeding slot to another person, please post on this thread.

I have a 'geno', how do I design the Tark'ee?
A great place to start is the Markings and Mutations guide. This guide contains many links which will help you through this also.
However, before designing your Tark'ee, you need to download the PSD base for the correct species. You can find these PSDs in the Resources Folder.
If you are unable to design your own Tark'ee, you are able to submit your geno to Design Requests - a place where an Admin may come along and design your Tark'ee for you. Though you will still need to head over to Design Approval to get the design checked, approved and uploaded!

How do I get a Serpintine Tarkee?

The best ways would be to purchase slots, splits or genos from other members.
Serpentine also have a small chance of hatching from a Rare Tark'ee Egg - which are a rare drop in all Activity types (even Trips).

The Gold Shop is currently closed - else you would be able to obtain from purchasing Starter Slots to the Serpentine Tark'ee.

I DL'd the base so I can design my adopted bred baby. There's a description of the colors and markings and the note that it will have a sail fin and a tadpole tail, but the base does not have these features. Do I just put the colors and markings on the base as-is and they're gonna grow the fin and tail when they are an adult or something? I see that there is a base for the features because I see a lot of pics with the exact same tail so I am just wondering if I'm meant to actually get those features onto the image as well.

Just checking that you've downloaded the PSD file for the base? If so - all those variations should be present on the file. They are designed on the import from the start.
Depending on the drawing program you use, you may or may not see folders on the PSD? These are 'hidden' by default, and you can just un-hide the ones you need. There are a 'base' layer and a 'lineart' layer for every variation.

OH! Thank you, I found it. Don't mind me, I'm a big dummy, I don't use GIMP very often anymore but it was all I had that could open a PSD. Or at least I don't think CSP can open one but I didn't try either cuz I knew GIMP could lol.

Yes :) Any and all art you have of your Tark'ee will count on the new Tracker - as long as you can find it!
XP stays with a Tark'ee, the only exception is if a major re-design is done (Using a Blank Slate) and the Tark'ee is no longer recognisable. This is treated as a new character entirely.

Regarding: comments.deviantart.com/1/5773…
Fertility Statues are no longer required in breeding, since Tribute has been made the requirement.
Fertility Statues can be used in place of a Tribute, will be guaranteed 1 egg (and no more) and will not require Tribute to be drawn.
HOWEVER, this does NOT affect cross-species breedings at all, therefore cannot be used in your Rock x Flight breeding.

1. Are fertility statues still a thing? I was reaquainting myself with everything and saw the Tribute is now needed but there's nothing mentiong fertility statues

2. I would like to inquire why my silver is in the negatives

3. Can we update to the new imports?

Fertility Statues are no longer a requirement in breeding, but are an optional addition. The exact effect of the Statue hasn't been quite settled on yet.

I honestly do not know, but it's been negative for a very long time so I have left it. This has been fixed now.

You may transfer all your existing designs to the new imports which are released. However you cannot submit them to the group just yet as there is going to be a separate thread - just to keep track of what is a new design going through approvals, and what is an updated import.
When we're open for submissions, an announcement will be made to the group. But by all means, start transferring whoever you like.

one more (....maybe)
can you reset a previously owned Tarkee's level after you've adopted it?
Reply
:icontarkeetales:
TarkeeTales Featured By Owner Mar 7, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
When a Tark'ee is submitted to Rank Updates, the total XP in your tracker is calculated to determine the new level. You can simply omit previous submissions of that Tark'ee if you wish to start from the beginning.
However there is no current system in place to 'reset' a Tark'ee completely.

How would that work? Having a rank 3 Tarkee with 0 XP?
Would it be easier if I requested from the previous owner the Tarkee's tracker and add it to it's new one?
Reply
:icontarkeetales:
TarkeeTales Featured By Owner Mar 7, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Basically any future rank ups will have to be above level 3 to gain XP or additional rank bonuses.

It would only be easier from your perspective as a player, having extra XP to start your Tark'ee off with. Whether or not you choose to use the previous submissions for XP does not affect us admins much at all :)

Another question
When a geno has 2 colours present for example like this: mm, ww, aa, Bb, Gg.
What does it mean? There is no colour combo geno listed in the info section for these two colours but one of the adoptees has it in its geno. Apparently it's brown but does the green take any part in it's colours?

TarkeeTales Featured By Owner Mar 4, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
The genotype can show 'carried' genes in this way - whereas phenotype is what is expressed.
There are some unspoken dominances, and sometimes randomness, in which coat is expressed in the case of multiple genes present. So in this case, the Tark'ee has the green and brown genes but only the brown is shown. This comes into play for any of the gene combos which don't have a coat associated with it.

Practically, the Tark'ee itself is brown. However this does mean that it has the ability to create Green offspring.

Imports in the Adoption centre. Other than the design (unless you have the correct item) what changes can you make to the Tarkee's profile or can you even make changes to the Tarkee's profile? Like for example their name or age
Reply
:icontarkeetales:
TarkeeTales Featured By Owner Mar 2, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
You are able to change just about anything which is not hardwired into the genotype or lineage.

So you can change:
- Name and Nicknames
- Height, Length, Wingspan
- Personality
- Deity - since this can be used for RP reasons only.

If you want to change anything on an import of yours (existing or one adopted from the AC), we ask that you head over to Design Approval and comment under 'corrections'.

Please use the newer import template is possible - just to make our lives easier Tark'ee profile information since a lot of old Tark'ee have a different template.

I want to start this question with a statement: the newbie guide is not there. Now the questions themselves.
I just joined, I want to know when I can get my tark'ee, as in when will s/he be available in the adoption list?
How can I see my inventory?

Apologies on the missing links! A while ago we were moving journals and information around to try and streamline the group a little more. There is currently not a newbie guide but we may work on a new one in the future, however it is not a priority at the moment.
The Adoption Center is a user-filled feature. So genos are only available when players drop off there. If there are none, then no one has dropped off any new genos and all existing ones have been claimed. Your next best bet would be to check out the Advertisements folder and see if anyone else is selling any genos or willing to trade them.
Or even breeding slots so you may breed your own.
Also, every player gets a single, non-transferable Adoption Token. You may use this at ANY time. So owning other Tark'ee will not mean your Token is invalid.

Inventories are created when a player first joins the group, or has a transaction (transferred items, or earns through activities / events / etc).
When your name has been added, you'll find this at "The Treasury,  The Vault".

Apologies if I've missed this somewhere but when calculating XP what's the difference between full colour and simple shading?
Reply
:iconclaritywind:
ClarityWind Featured By Owner Jan 15, 2017  Hobbyist General Artist
Simple Shaded would be a single shadow layer with no real effect on it - giving an impression of depth more than anything.
Fullcolour is shading and highlights.
I tried to look through your gallery for examples of both, but overall you seem to have either flatcolour or fullcolour :)

fav.me/da0v9hd - I know it's not shaded, but IF that grey on the body and tail was a shadow layer, then that would be simple.
It's not hard to have a thing qualify as 'fullcolour' in this group :) We're pretty flexible.

Joyful Miranda and the Huntress would count as Simple Shading - fav.me/da0n108
Whereas even shading as simple as these: fav.me/daa69wb || fav.me/da9paos || fav.me/dag2845
would count as fullcolour because there's more than just 1 layer of shading, and/or there are highlights and other things present.

Neither of these were the question I forgot earlier but I found two more already
(plus I'm sorry I seem to have taken over the FAQ comments already XD)

Technically could a full mane or mohwak be shaped to look like 'ears' or 'horns'? Not actual ones but just sticky-up fluff like horned owls have. Since it's not a separate mutation I wasn't sure.

Also on here it talks about feeding hatchlings so they grow up, does that mean that all uploaded Tark'ee start off as hatchlings and have to draw them being fed twice or is it an optional thing and they can start as adults? I'm kind of confused about it since I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere else (maybe I just missed it somewhere though, I have a bad habit of missing the obvious; sorry if I have!)

When you draw or otherwise depict your Tark'ee, you are welcome to interpret them how you like! So adding shape to look like 'ears' would be fine. As long as we can recognise that it is still the same character, you may alter what you like.
In future, there may be modification potions which will allow custom features added to Tark'ee (mythic markings and mutations).

Regarding hatchling feeding, that was an early-game mechanic where Tark'ee had hatchling images before they grew up. And to grow up, the hatchlings needed to be fed twice.
That has since been revised as often there were a number of hatchlings and drawing them all was time consuming for people. There was also hatchling death if they were not fed. As such, it also became confusing as to whose responsibility it would be to feed the hatchlings - since people often breed to sell.
That is when we moved to a geno/pheno system instead of admin-designed Tark'ee.

I had thought I removed all mention of Hatchling Feeding... as it is no longer a mechanic in the game.
I am sorry for the confusion - but thank-you for pointing out the outdated information.

After reading over the XP, Silver and Gold journal I'm still not entirely sure how to get Silver from art (except as rewards for quests); it says Silver can be earned through Tark'ee related art like XP, maybe I'm just completely looking over it somewhere but I can't find where the totals are calculated XD

Also is there an activity requirement here? I juggle a lot of ARPGs so I always like to ask when I join one ^^
Reply
:icontarkeetales:
TarkeeTales Featured By Owner Jan 11, 2017  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Apologies, but that journal has old information in it.
At the groups conception, Silver was earned through every art piece yielding 10x the amount of XP that piece was worth. However, this has since been revised in order to allow Silver to remain rarer.

The current ways to earn Silver are:
- Selling items to the shop / other players
- Dropping off Tark'ee/genos at the Adoption Center
- Trading Tark'ee for Silver among players
- Group events
- Quests
- Or trading other things with players who currently have Silver (eg, art)

As for minimal activity requirement - no!
You may be as active as you like. Some people like to only participate in quests or group events, others are as active as their story progresses with their Tark'ee, and some have adopted Tark'ee and done nothing with them.
So it's really up to you how you approach the group :)
