I just tried to upload some new art, only to discover that there seems no way to organize it as I want it.  Instead, new posts go to a "new" folder, or to "all", but I can no longer organize them into theme folders or a featured folder.  I've searced until I've poked and pressed everything twice, but I cut can't seem to find to add stuff.  Deviant Art hasn't worked quite right for at least a year, and I'm more than a little cheesed off about it.
  • Listening to: Televison likely, Tom Waits, Yes, or Blondie.
  • Reading: "Julian Comstock", Robert Charles Wilson
  • Watching: ...the little words moving across the screen
  • Playing: With little toy cars (1l18 scale).
  • Eating: Yes, but trying to watch my weight.
  • Drinking: Are you paying the tab? I'll have a Dramboui

I thought the option to choose what gallery to put an upload into was at the bottom of the page under "Submit to". as a series of checkboxes. I think the benefit for premium uses is the ability to have folders more than one level deep. Also, once uploaded to Featured, you have the option of "Move To" or "Copy To" in the gallery view.

I was given the option of folders by someone, I think, but let it expire.  The folders still seem to be there, but I can't change them or add to them.   Bit of a pity, but it wasn't worth money to me ... especially as I have no convenient way to exchange it.

The way to do it after the fact is to go to your gallery page, click the edit page button in the upper right, and then you have a little pencil menu by each item for copy to or move to your folders, or re-order them by dragging. I think you can also drag things into folders (but you have to use that menu to move them out). Perhaps it's a bug if you have sub folders but no premium membership that won't let you continue to use the subfolders.

Good developments.  I still have no control over my folders, but at least I can use the folders in the Fraggle group.  All the other things I complained about with DA are still true, though...

"At the last moment, it looks as though I found what I was omitting ... a line at the top of the submissions page that changes the folders in your group.  Simple once I spotted it ... but I don't do this often enough, and every site seems to want to do everything differently, and you have to look for the speedometer, the gas petal, the radio, etc...  or there may not be parking lights at all!

"Assuming that I got this right, this time."

Yeah... that's what I remembered.  But the little upper-right gizmo isn't there anymore.  I think it's a bug ... or DA won't let me use the folders anymore (though I believe that I an see what's IN them).  If so, then I can't do as Negaduck wants with the folders in his Fraggle Rock group.  Either he has to stop messing with me to make me do it -- which he seems insistent on -- or there's no way to add new material were it belongs!

I have tried to get help from the admin, but all I got was endless tips and common-complaints, without being able to pose a direct question to them.  No doubt there is a way, but I refused to go through so much crap without any visible progress ... who knows if I ever would get the answers I needed?

DA has been action up in other ways, as well.  I can't open and answer private messages most of the time.  I seem to have to wait until I get another message from someone, then for some reason the old one is accessible.  I can also only open the top message in a list of comments on my posts.  Before can go on to the next one, I have to delete it from the top left corner.

None of this should be happening, and if it goes on I may give on DA ... treat is as an enormous archive without adding to it.

Huh, it doesn't seem like you have folders inside of folders, so I'm not sure why the "Edit Page" function isn't working for you, unless you have rogue ad-blockers hashing the page for you.

Wait. This is some other group, not your own Gallery? I'm not sure there, that's probably a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

As for messages, they did break off the notes from the other notifications. Generally you should be able to access your notes (emails) at any time by clicking the envelope icon in the top bar next to your name, and then click the word notes next to the word Notifications. (Yeah, dumb design, isn't clear that that's a clickable item).

I eventually found another bar that permitted me to drop files into the other group's folders, which solved the immediate problem.  The other issue confuses me now mainly because there is not precise terminology for things -- when I say click on the gizmo, do you mean pull down the razzmatazz?  Who knows... whoever wrote the software no doubt knows what everything means, but I never never actually studied any of this!  I'll save you last comments and consider them for a while ... I may eventually decide I know what you mean and can experiment.

One of the things I loved about the Mac was that things to click on were pretty obvious, and had names. But the fashion of the web is to make words on the page, or inscrutable icons into important links, with no indication of what they do.

If it comes down to it, if you have a very specific thing you'd like to do, perhaps I could make screenshots of how I'd do it.

Also, those options only appear after you've uploaded the file.

I don't upload very much, so I haven't noticed beyond the extra issues if the image is a JPeg. Most photos I take are on my phone which is only in Jpeg format so i have to go through each time and change the format, and I have trouble uploading from mobile.

I'm beginning to think that using folders is an option I no longer have and would have to pay to use.  I don't understand your problem with .jps... I can upload. jpgs directly from my computer desktop to Deviant Art.  No sweat, other than the folderol about choosing genres.
