It's a weakness... like always having to eat the whole bag of chips.

Surely, not really?  As a design, she's more related to B'Rer Rabit from Disney's version of the "Song of the South."

Of inspiration?  No.  Did you want more paint?  Or guacamole instead?

Oh... the orginal is Joel Harris's stories, written in the 19th. century in the idiom of black story tellers.  I don't know how authentic they were, or how much is preserved of the dialect is accurate, but you could check Wikipedia -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joel_Cha…

There is no other animated version that I know, but it was widely illustrated at the time.  Time has rendered the stories less palatable to modern tastes, however.

Brer Rabbit was originally an African species of gazelle, but because it or related forms * were not native to North America where the slaves were transplanted, they latched onto a species of mammal that moved the same way- the rabbit.

Likewise our robin is NOT the real robin. It is a thrush with colors suggesting those of the Robin Redbreast, a songbird of a different family. Events went the same way , only with the British colonists transferring the title to this American bird.

* Moves with the leggy grace of your characters (like the gazelle morphing into human form).

Incredible how things that were "Ok" in its time are now controversy just because it doesn't fit with the "modern times".

In fact, there exist another animated version on Br'er Rabbit, I watched it a lot when I was a little kid, it laster around 40 minutes and were 2-3 stories of Br'er Rabbit, nothing of Uncle Ramus or anyother story that has appeared in the Disney version, that's why I found strange that you have mentioned other adaptation of "Song of the Sound" and not specifically "Br'er Rabbit"

I saw the animated sessions on the Walt Disney Presents hour as a kid.  The live action parts were never shown by 1960.  At some point not even the animated parts were shown, though often wondered why they hadn't at least been edited into a short film with some sort of neutral naration.  But perhaps the studio decided that even than was too racist.  It seemed to me that people would find the animation racist even though it might be perfectly accurate for 1850.  Even Huckleberry Finn has been under attack at one time or another, as too racist to be exposed to small children, even though the book specifically renounced racism.
