The "arm" that I perched on went through a hidden opening that led into the forest. When I saw my opportunity to take off, I took it. The first thing I did was to start flapping on instinct. I made a surprising amount of lift while doing so. As my wings were beating, I scaned the scenery with my echolocation.
My excitement builded exponentially, as I felt the freedom of flight. The feeling is hard to describe in words to those who have never actually flown. Such freedom, it was well beyond my fantasies of flight, exceedig my expectations in every way. My troubles were completely forgotten as I savored the experience of being my favorite animal.
