From the greek words Kakos and Mydi which mean vicious and clam respectively.

These advanced mollusks can grow as big as chairs and weigh as much as a boar. They hunt for similar creatures in the open ocean and can swim at high speed in a chase. The two pieces of their shells have been modified to act like bellows. Two orifices, hidden behind the two spikes near its jaw joint, intake water when the shell opens. When the shell closes, the water is forced through a series of thin tubes running along the top piece. This creates propulsion far more controlled than Earth's sea shells. To steer, it evolved two large flippers. The bottom shell has a type of "door stop" that prevents the top piece from closing completely and pinching those flippers.

The Kakomydis's teeth are not designed to crush shells. They need to grasp the exposed soft tissue of other agile swimmers. Once it sinks its jaws into prey, escape is impossible thanks to the notch at the front. This is a function that is found in both Crocodiles and possibly Dilophosaurus. They are extremely aggressive when hunting alone, but when swimming in schools, they are focused entirely on breeding. Kakomydis lay their eggs in shallow water and can crawl back into deeper water using the spikes growing from their face.
