Hi, I'm Tanya
DA Community Volunteer
I'm a General Photography Community Volunteer
My partner in crime is Mrs-Durden
I take Daily Deviation suggestions from the following photography categories:
Architecture | Conceptual | Darkroom | Fireworks | Horror & Macabre | Infrared | Other | People & Portraits (Body Art, Classic Portraits, Emotive Portraits, Expressive, Infants & Children, Other, Self-Portraits, Spontaneous Portraits, Weddings) | Photojournalism | Still Life | Transportation | Urban and Rural
I mostly feature dark, experimental, psychedelic, visually challenging, subversive and otherwise unconventional photography with style and substance. I like weird. Give me weird.

Points gathered here will go towards prizes and subs for groups I'm in, thanky donatey miscellaneous goodness and other lovely things for lovely people.
Donations are gratefully received and kindly appreciated but never expected. I tend to buy Points for giving rather than rely on others for them but your support means a lot to me and all the Points I gather here are given back to the DA community. Thank you!
The amount of 1500 points is an arbitrary number pulled out of thin air/the ground/the back of my brain cause there was a box that asked for a number and I never say no to a box asking for something.
1538I'm glue, wrap around my arm rubber tube stick it to me
how's it feel to be famous?
No, no you know, now, you just don't see
breaking my teeth just to say this
just curl that last finger and make the fist
bloody my lip, I'm at the end of my rope
and there's a loose thread in my noose
just rip it out, mind the stitches so no sound can interlope
it's not peace and quiet, tension and waiting without a truce
something's got to finally give
you've become the ocean with all your pressure
and it drains my will to live
drowning in your future, can you promise something lesser?
A sudden death, perfection in the execution?
A life sentence on memory row, torn down by prosecution
is there a greater woe? To know how it was before,
but to be imprisoned to be forgotten, by buzzards of your own imagination
carrying on a hollow corpse for madness' sake and nothing more?
To be picked apart by thoughts that persist in a cynical dungeon of your own creation
to think you are no more a number than a name,

Time is synced to the internet

I have always had a mind

from school I was hit in the face with
a bat, and my brain produced
DMT in a near death experience:
All time has become the same

from every moment of my lifespan
I stood as a child talking to the man
I have still not become
stuck in the median between the two forms
hearing my not yet self call himself precocious
in tinnitus the voice of a babe
louder than the rational adult.
I AmI am not your brave man
no hero resides in my intentions
I am not your sound mind
no assured safety can be found in my actions
I am my history until I am overwritten
no words can heal the fractures
no bridge can reconnect the missing
I am only defined generously as a bad person
trying to be better by living honestly, being open, writing and sharing freely
I am no good for more than this right now,
neither is a typewriter in pristine condition
sitting and gathering dust.
There was a thought
there was the thought
of suicide before giving in
to the responsibility of brushing my teeth
just a day is hard enough
without having to the end
with oral hygiene
then there comes the excuses
a debate of whether or not you brush
before of after sex
I don’t have the will
to commit the act twice
there is no sleep

TerrorWhere are the words?
Ford found a way to speak,
though she first said -
"I'm terrified" -
and so are we, those
who heard her
as she spoke about
the crux of the matter =
rampant with misogyny
and so little
The fear is great,
the fate of our highest
court is up for
by people who can't
think with clear minds
or clear hearts; who
yell and cry and carry on
as if much younger
than they are, at least in
mind; they aren't adult.
It isn't right.
untitledYou, you have to keep it together, in
your moods and in your words, for
your two grown children and the in-laws -
for the grandson who looks so much
like him and is a performer too, who
is too young to visit him with the family
I, I have no such compunctions, nor rules
to abide, nor loss of my time when I'm called -
I'm here all night, three nights, while you sleep, while
you rest to keep your brave face on, and he calls.
I'm here to hear his last performances - his singing,
speaking, reading, his talking the nights away
'til surgery day.
I hear his fear, his bravery, his dread and his
wit while it's whittled down by long hours of
pain, his reality of loss and a long life near over -
all the depth of his deconstruction, declared in
tones both strong and weak while he speaks to me,
and I don't know the outcome of the docs' work
because I'm just the other woman today,
a wild one,
in a cave,
a bird that has stopped singing.
The Weight of Survival (Slinky)the weight of loss
breaks one's own sense of weight and measures
as they'd thought that loss, in terms of weight,
would lighten gravity's pull, but weight
a minute, weight, a lifetime, and then
the subject's vernacular alone, becomes a weight
when a term like birth-weight
breaks, in that weight given birth
should be alive, not be the cold counter weight
negating the very weight holding one to earth
and only in this aching context, is weight lost
this weight reminds me of drowning
this weight reminds me of wings
this weight remembers we owe something
for the elusive weight death lost that day
in the weight allowed to remain
Words about Being Slinky (a slinky)Some say women and cats are both slinky, equating them
when the slinky parts between them seem to match.
One is slinky often - the cat, a creature of night, sometimes
of flight, one of sleep and of slinky hunting for love or feast -
an unmatched animal, proud and slinky in homes or in the wild,
an animal that can sound like a child, or be near-silently slinky in
voice, by choice, as it roams the slinky worlds of jungle, cat and man.
A cat fills the definition of slinky, either awake or asleep.
A woman is not so slinky, often, but there are times when she is
undeniably - slinky, like when she shimmers and glimmers at night
or in the dark day, a feast herself, full of slinky movements and
glances, of moments that are slinky suggestions on their own, shown
through grace, space and place. She can be slinky when no one
expects it -at home or on the street- she's at one with a slinky
walk or slinky clothes, a woman people want to know, yet one
who is totally herself, slinky or no - a woman w
Our State of Disrepaironce earth's proud ocean of teeth
we've aged poorly, sun dried
into nullified fields
patterned by sunken ghost outlines,
a great empty
boasting only its own vastness
and the dull bone brackets
stand barely upright enough
to cradle between us
even the slightest solution
to our state of disrepair
so, we stop trying
and stopped being tried
what little life and hope
we're capable of conducting
back into the merciless and cyclical vacuum
of its own fruitless release,
a self-referencing despair
becomes its own perpetual machine
here, my arm of thought
digs all the more ineffectively
for ways to tell you
our waters actually are
and not just those beneath us
but above, where our dead re-cycle back
in every raindrop
to reassemble and congregate
in the pulsing networked temple
of humanity's guts
and i keep digging, i suppose
not just for this, but
for the quiet simple comfort
of the tunnel itself
and the humor and irony
of an unsmiled joke
in how digging our own
The Last Photograph | a horror contest
Mrs-Durden and I would like to invite you to take part in a horror photography contest with a difference - the goal isn't to take the 'best' photo. The goal is to totally creep us out!
Instead of giving you a theme or a topic, we're giving you a story. The end of the story is the photo you take and submit to the contest.
We encourage you to dig around in the darkest depths of your imagination. If you're awesome at costume creating, monster making and effects make-up, that's great. If you're a super experienced horror photographer, that's great too. BUT...if you're none of those things, that's also great and you have just as much chance of winning!
Also, don't worry if you don't have a fancy camera, because shooting your contest entry on your phone will add to the authenticity of your photo and may work in your favour!
So, without further ado, here's how to take part.
[ the story ]
You're out for a walk on your own and you notice a mobile phone lying at the side of the path. The low battery light is flashing but it still has charge, so it must have been dropped recently. As you pick it up, the screen flickers to life and you see the last photo that was taken with it...the photo is your entry to the contest.
AquaChallenge: SALTYHello watercolorists !
It's been so long promised ...now it's time
To cook, to eat salty snacks? No!
We will be using salt...but for painting.
In watercolors you can use lots of different materials like plastic, paper tissue and everyday items like water and you guessed it...SALT to make awesome textures.
For the salt technique in watercolor paintings you can use regular kitchen salt, sea salt or the special one made for watercolors from an art supply store.
See some examples of great use of the salt technique:

How Does It Work: Community ProjectsCommunity Engagement Week
We're all members of the same community, but when you want to be noticed as a person and an artist, it's important to engage in and with the community.
I know it's scary to put yourself out there and we're all introverts hiding behind our computers, tablets or smartphones, but you need to give a little before you start reaping the rewards.
There are many ways to do this; comment on other artists' work, create a journal feature, join a group, become an admin of a group, walk into an active chat, answer or start a forum thread, etc.
As the title of this article suggests, I've left the seemingly obviously one out so far: Community Projects.
We've all seen them - think about Ellysiumn's recent Nature Wallpaper Contest - but maybe you didn't know they qualified as a community project. Because really, what is a community project?
Community Projects: What are they?
A community project is a p
Chat Event: Your Feedback is RequestedCommunity Engagement Week
Friday October 12th we will be hosting a chat event in :#projecteducate: where several Community Volunteers will be present to discuss YOUR feedback, thoughts and suggestions regarding DeviantArt, please read carefully to better understand what this event will and will not be about.
The premise of the event:
We'd love to have an honest and open discussion with you about ways in which we as individuals can make our communities continue to grow and thrive on DA. What can we do to foster change and improvement? What can we do to make new artists feel welcome, to provide the best environment possible to our peers? What changes would we like to see on the site that might help us garner more positive results and end up with stronger communities here on DA?
This event is intended for us to hear your thoughts, suggestions and feedback, but it should be clear that we have no control or influence on any site changes, as we are no
Mature content 101Community Engagement Week
In this article, we’ll focus on mature content. We’ll answer questions about what it actually is, what sort of categories and levels it has, what DA’s policy on graphic content and sexual themes is, what breaks the regulations and how you can report the pieces breaking it, and how you can customize your browsing experience to stop seeing things you don’t want.
I will be copiously quoting from DA’s support center articles – if you’d like to go straight to the source, here are the links through which you can access them:

Evil Re-Imagined Contest
Many of us grew up with Disney movies, great stories with valuable morals in which good always triumphs over evil that shaped our lives and gave us some of the most memorable characters of all time, heroes and heroines who came to save the day!
However not only the heroes of these movies are well remembered and cherished, in fact sometimes the villain of the story is the character we remember and like the most, because let's be honest, the bad guy is always the most charismatic.
Now is your time to re-imagine the devious villains of your favorite Disney movies, give them a twist or simply depict them in a new way, YOUR way!
How to enter
- Create an artwork of you favourite villain of any Disney movie, animated or live action but with a twist; place them in an alternate universe, banding
