Oh dear god its like she is in the Resident Evil games now. I mean her new outfit is okay but this new game seems less like a tomb raider adventure and more like a try at getting a new fan base without concern for the current loyal fan base

I kinda like that she gets smacked around a bit. She needed to be cut down to size :) Picture-perfect action girl image is so 90s.

But otherwise it's not really Tomb Raider, it's just survival/horror with Lara's name attached to it. It'll sell a few copies I'm sure.

Yes. I do like the new Lara. I'm actually a big fan of what Crystal Dynamics has done with the TR series. I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. I think it's going to be EPIC!

I'm not sure if I'm gonna like this game. It's incrediblely good looking and the FMV animations are without a doubt some of the best I've seen. However, after it was announced that Crystal Dynamics were going to cooperate with Square Enix, I was worried how this would turn out. Square Enix Asia is great, Square Enix Europe is not. And after watching the trailer, I knew it was the Europe department that had been involved in this project. But here's the kicker; the game doesn't look like either. Not Crystal, and not S.E. It looks like Capcom (Resident Evil) and Naugthy Dog (Uncharted). The game that was suppose to be the originator is now copying its copyists! So, frankly, I'm confused. Two game companies is now making something that looks like a copy of that was copied from them? Why?

Further on, I think this will push more fans away from the franchise than pulling in new ones. By taking Lara out of her element, they are taking the essence of the character out of the game. When I play Tomb Raider, I expect to be controlling a tough stone-cold killah, not a scared, nervous wreck of a teenager. This is not Tomb Raider. This is wrong.

Im split about this game.

On one hand i dont like the whole re-boot idea. As it scraps some of the important things that have happened in lara's past. Example; when lara, amanda and some others explored that tomb in peru as teenagers. Although i suppose it is possible that it could of happened a couple of years after this new game. I think it will be very hard for Crystal Dynamics to link how the lara in this game, becomes the Lady Lara Croft that we love.

Although on the other hand i think that this is possibly just what the Tomb Raider series needs. Though i loved the original games, i can see why people would start to get bored of them, i think that rebooting the game like this could potentially draw in so many people, and it come be the thing that saves tomb raider from eventually fizzling out. I also think that although we know alot about lara's personality, and can guess how she would act in certain situations. There was definitely room for them to explore this area of the character more, and i think it looks like thats what they do in this game. I was also replaying the legend levels earlier today, and was thinking to myself how in the original tomb raider games, in certian tombs i would turn corners shitting myself at the possiblity that something would jump out. But in the most recent TR games, i almost feel like it has become a little more PG, for example i could stand there and be shot and you wouldnt really see any blood, and be mauled by a lion which would push you to the floor, but then you would just jump back up as if nothing had happened. I think that adding in this more realistic, gore factor could bring the tension and gripping edge back to the games. I also think that even though she doesnt use the traditional looking outfit, the blue top is very similar to the future blue top that she wears, and the trousers are pretty much the same shorts that she wears in future games. So i think they have very much so kept with the whole lara look there.

Also part of me thinks that they should of created a new character for this game, who can go on to form her own identity. As it is a little annoying that the Lara we love is being altered.
But on the other hand its the fact that your playing as Lara Croft that i think will keep the older fans gripped. Its almost like the a comfort factor, in that you already love and know lara, so you want her to survive so much more in this game. And it kind of drives you forward in it. If you get what i mean?

But i am really looking forward to playing it!!!! And then that way i can properly decide whether i like it or not!

I really like this trailer, it made me really anxious about the game, I want it to come out! But March 2013 seems soooo far away. My only fear is that the game turns out to be shorter than the trailer. Lately a lot of games are really good but also really really short, and I want a lot of hours of entertainment with this new Lara! And I hope she's up to my highest expectations. I love Lara and at first I didn't like too much the idea of a reboot, but then I thought I might as well give it a chance.

Oh boy... do I...

Tanya you have to do that version!!!

This time, Lara overcomes all odds in order to save herself and her friends. I think it's the most mature and dramatic storyline of the saga, very similar to the Drake's games (Uncharted).

She's so young, so lovely and fragile (I think she's closer to your own age) , but during this adventure she will harden up and mature into the most intrepid adventurer ever.

Can't wait to see your rendition to this new Lara.

Interesting.... I had seen an article on this some months ago, and liked the new look in terms of the advances in graphics. I will say that as a sort of "origin" story, it might be quite the ride, but I would like to see a Lara more like the one we all know in future titles. Yeah, keep the action crazy intense, put her in danger, make it creepy as hell, but give us the confident, bad-ass babe we've come to know and love. We'll see how it all goes, eh?

I thought the trailer was amazing and I absolutely cannot wait for this game. I like the changes the made to Lara. The old games were getting very tired and boring, as proven by the reviews of the past three games by both fans and gamer magazines alike. It was time for a change in the franchise. And this game will either make it or kill it. I'm expecting the former because I'm optimistic. :)

Lara sounds like she picked up an American accent, and is a bit too whiny for my liking. At least they did make the boobs more appropriate to the previous games though. :D

Just finished watching the video. I'm interested and worried at the same time. Even though I do know that this is who she was BEFORE the she was the Tomb Raider everyone knows and loves, she sounds kinda whinny. (whiney, winney??...idk.)

It's more of a survival game now than the "tomb raider who is wanting to know what really happened to her parents."
which makes sence i guess, seeing as how she's stranded on an island...i don't know. I'm arguing with myself. I'll still buy the game though :P

It might be good, but tbh ive got sick and tired of playing recent games that i cant actually play anymore, im forever watching a movie where im getting shot or hit over the back of the head and then helped to my feet staggering and falling over, unable to shoot things as i have to follow people or things around and "stay quiet" and behave myself, its like watching someone else play very badly.

Well fuck that shit i wanna PLAY the game, be free to blow shit up and jump off things and explore huge maps, start shooting at 1000 soldiers like rambo and wade into battle going crazy, even if it means i die :D if i want to shoot anyone or anything, i should be able to, not "friendly fire will not be tollerated" when THEY stood infront of MY firing gun

And ive got tired of the same old shit in games theyve all become the same. I love the old games where you really had to use your head to solve things, where it felt realistic. This looks like her getting raped and owned in a SAW movie :lmao: It might be a good game, but theyre not selling it to me very well atm. :) This new game may be different, maybe, lets hope so as i find myself playing games less and less :)

As for her look, she looks different but ok :D youll have to let me know if the games good :D

Visually, it looks great. I can't wait; TR has always been my favorite game. Not sure about Laura's voice though... and I sure hope she toughens up quickly so that she's not so whiny.

Not liking it, who's the whiny girl in the video?! :XD: I mean, if they wanted to make something "completely different" then why call upon Lara's name to do so, so that they would get basically another game's fans just on the game name? I don't like her looks, or the voice, or the character presented at least in this trailer. Can't say if I'll like the story or not obviously, but basically I actually _don't_ play games like this for the sake of the genre, I'd mainly play it as a Lara fan, and I don't enjoy the fact that they might slip me a completely different game with the same name. Just like I don't enjoy MMORPGHS but I played WoW, just like I don't like FPS but I played CS and nothing else appealed me. They shouldn't have poked "our precious". :D

I guess this will be the story that will start the Tomb Raider Legend.
The intensity of the action is badass. This game is pulling no punches as Lara.
This will take your cosplay to a new level.

The point is that this is Lara BEFORE she becomes the classic Lara we all know and love.

The game is about the horrific events that train Lara to become the Tomb raiding adventurer she is in the other games.

Personally, I think the game looks great. I've wanted a survival game were you actually have to survive forever.

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't they confirm this is a complete reboot? So they could take Lara in any direction they wanted, and not make her end up as the Lara we know.

"The first in a third continuation, the game is set to provide no correlation to the entirety of the previous entries in the series"
-en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomb_Raider_(2013_video_game)

I think this means that it's not a direct prequel to the other games, only an origin story. Though I maybe misunderstanding it.

I don't know...she just doesn't seem very capable, and a little whiny. I realize it's a restart, but wasn't Lara supposed to be ex-special forces or something before becoming an adventurer? I don't think this has a chance of catching that certain something that the original Tomb Raider game had.

Graphics look decent, but those are all cut scenes, who knows what actual gameplay is going to be like.

Uggggg. My thoughts...I dislike most things that are "restarts" of a series--it's a sleazy marketing gimmick to make a new kind of game and try to sell it to a loyal fanbase of a different kind of game. And, maybe the "new" Laura is just getting started, but it''s a survival horror game with a girl who's terrified of everything and has no control. Very Un-laura. Annnnd...it doesn't appear to have Tanya in it, so Squaresoft clearly doesn't know who Laura Croft is :D

LARA.

LA-RA.

Not ''Laura'' get her bloody name right.

Also, who are you to judge what Tomb Raider really is about? If you don't like what you saw, then it's your loss.
