"Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Intro Music - Brian Langsbard and Michael McNerny"  youtu.be/sUIWUNzyVTI

----------

Voiceover:  "Ryex, Kro'kha, Pleebo, and Sahko are boarding the silver van that will take them to the surface-to-orbit shuttle's launch site.  Ryex is waving to the crowd with a gloved hand as camera flashes strobe.  The soggy crowd is still enthusiastic in spite of the delays and light rain."

Tycho-6 truly made a production of the departure of its native sons and daughters for offworld training and the shakedown cruise of the freighter, Broken Arrow.  While they had an imbedded reporter from TNET1 during their time on Tycho-6, further program updates were provided by the crewmembers of the Arrow and a GalCom liason.  This Sword World was not going to end up as an economic backwater or a brain-drained world with its culture overwhelmed by waves of colonists.

I thought I didn't have any spare creativity, then this happened during a gap between meetings at work.  Not only did it get a bit of preliminary shading, but it picked up a background and crop guides too.  (The stinger would have featured a sponsorship gag, but it would really ruin the tone.  It might be lighthearted, but it's not enough of a screwball comedy to have a pizza franchise advertisement.)

I'd give my left hand to see a second age where the real celebrities and headline-makers of our time were the modern-day pioneers, people who risk it all to bring humanity further in both progress and to expand our knowledge and livable habitats, instead of blowhards who try to sell snake oil and personal branding as a solution to the problems of our time.

Things haven’t changed as much as you might think, unfortunately. There were still horrible things going on during the Heroic Era of space flight. On the other hand, most people were willing to pay for civilization... (Gods, it’s like being in a hurricane isn’t it? Everyone with a megaphone in hand, everything done with little regard for if it should. Plus the fact that the old enemy is absolutely gleeful about having blood in the streets just like ‘32. The jackbooted stooges want to provoke people to justify a violent crackdown.)

Nice work. It definitely has the sense of those early Space Age launches, where the astronauts would be walked past the cameras on the way to the rocket.

Pretty much.  Sophonts have left Tycho-6 before, but only as passengers.

I really like this a lot!  I can tell you went the extra mile with the sketchwork as well as the shading.   Also, I really like the story you came up with.   The words you chose really paint a vivid picture in my mind of the spectacular sendoff the denizens of Ryex's village would have for their first home-grown space travelers.  :)

Thanks so much for making this for me!  It turned out marvelously. :thanks:

What beats me is where they were able to get an aluminum-bodied streamliner van from, the colonists only had mechanical mules, deuce-and-a-halfs, and tractors.

The Tychans have had access to modern technology for close to 108-110 years, courtesy of the charity of the government bodies in the GalCom.   Although the colonists brought their own technology around 157 years ago.   It's not hard to imagine that some technology was traded between some colonists and natives, even prior to their re-connection with the GalCom.

They even found a stylistically appropriate spaceport van.
