I invite you to take a visual journey through DA, where images are linked by themes, colors, textures, and moods, in a free-flowing sequence occasionally punctuated by striking contrasts that catch the eye, like an ever-changing diptych unfolding from one image to the next. This journal brings together works by fellow Deviants that I have recently discovered—through my watch list, the homepage, or other posts—and added to my favorites. It is also a way of highlighting the important role that blogs play in sharing and enriching the community. Some of these images are the kind I wish I could have created myself, given more talent, time, or resources. @tanikel Paired with one of mine, as on my profile page Pearwood's 2025B feature log Steve's suggestions on how to leave a good comment... Tell the artist what caught your eye, something your particularly liked or didn't like. Tell the artist something you think they could have done differently or better. Suggest an alternate title; it tells the artist what you saw in the image. Interact with the artwork, continue its story. Ask the artist how or why they did something. If nothing else, even "Ooh, pretty!" or "Oh, ick!" is a lot more information than no comment at all.

1 What is your name and where are you from? My name is Kristina (or Kris) and I'm currently in far west Texas in the United States. I specialize in photographing everything equine. 2 How long have you been active on DA? Forever, it feels like. I've been a member for 16 years and for years prior, I used to use DA for photographs for photomanipulations for play-by-post RPGs. 3 How did you start photography? I've had a camera in my hand since I was a kid. I'd wander around taking pictures with a Sony Cybershot or my dad's Minolta x700. I always gravitated toward nature, especially animals. I didn't know what I was doing then - I just photographed what looked cool with whatever settings the cameras chose. I didn't get serious about photography until I joined the U.S. Army as a combat cameraman in 2009. Photography Without Borders - GSCCC 2026

I'll be teaching a class on, you guessed it, horses and riders with a twist at the end if the weather cooperates. It's hands-on, so you'll be practicing in the desert with one of my favorite clients (who is normally up for running me over lol).

Best of Show

I’m a few months late on this update, but it’s a fun one. Back in late summer, the president of my photography club strongly encouraged me to enter the International Eye of the Camera competition at our local art association. I almost didn’t. I’d just come off some rough PPA judge feedback and my confidence was wobbly. I begrudgingly submitted two recent metal prints and hit “enter,” fully expecting nothing. I couldn’t make opening night (I was photographing a horse show out of state - of course), and my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing: “Congrats!” “So proud of you!” I had to double-check what night it even was. Turns out, one of my entries won Best of Show. I’m still floored. I don’t feel fancy or important - I’m an observer who notices small things and uses a bit of psychology to shape the story in my images. But this reminded me: the work can speak when you’re too tired to. Here’s to making things work anyway - especially when you’re unsure. Keep entering. Keep showing up. Let the
