Racing Toward Freedom [show extra]    Saphira snorted, pawing at the ground in anticipation. Eva stood near the slowly opening gate and it took everything in the mare's body for her to not shove her way through to get to the rolling fields beyond. This was the best month of the year for many of the horses. For one entire month, they would be free to roam the hills and mountain foothills. They could eat their fill of grass, run to their heart's content, and misbehave at will on their annual break.    "Don't get into too much trouble," Eva laughed, swinging the gate fully open. The small herd that had been milling around the paddock moved as one when the barrier between them and freedom was removed. Saphira moved first, her powerful hindquarters launching her towards the gate like she was coming out of the chute at a barrel racing event. Close behind her was Eira, the young mare had never experienced this vacation before, but she loved to run and was happy to follow the herd wherever they

“Eowyn, back up,” Zae yelled over the sounds of mother nature punishing their trip through Ividja forest. The dire backed up impatiently, huffing out a threatless growl. Her reindeer, his antlers just short enough to fit, stood under her and made sure to back up just as she did to avoid getting trampled.
With the tokotas and other creatures out of the way, Zae slid down from Saphira’s back, let Kally hold the reins in her mouth, and spent a few minutes trying

Gelato, the toki approaching, looked at them with similar apprehension. No one, not even Blitzen, moved. Eowyn dropped her head, her fur raising on her back. Kally looked unphased, but Zae had seen her move in front of him. The others, Keelie, Grant, and Aspen, all watched in anticipation of what might be to come.
“Ignore it,” Zae said after several minutes of tense quiet. Eowyn raised her head but kept her eyes pinned on Gelato. It was an impatient yip from Keelie th

Allvaldrs Beckoning [explore] [raid]    Keelie was the only one who was able to keep pace with Eowyn as she ran, and even she fell behind at times. There was no doubt that Eowyn could run longer and faster than any of the others, but she wouldn’t leave them behind. Kally, her legs shorter than the others, struggled to keep pace, running alongside Saphira and Zae to keep from getting separated. Aspen and Grant stayed in the middle of the group, running in stride with one another. If they weren’t running with everything they had, Zae would have cracked a joke about them being on the same sled dog team.    None of them had time to think, though, all they could do was try to outrun the treacherous feeing the depths of Ividja brought with it. They could see the edge of the forest, see the great white expanse before the Allvaldr Mountain’s base, and then it was like someone had hit the play button on a movie paused in the middle of an explosive fight scene.

Now that the sun was finally beginning to rise, Grant began to nudge the other members of the pack awake, yipping excitedly and poking at them with his nose. Eowyn, Aspen, and Kally were somewhat annoyed to be roused from their sleep, but Keeli, not very fond of male tokotas to begin with, snapped at him in warning. When Aspen rose and stretched on the other side of Eowyn, Keeli gave him a low growl, too, just in case he had any desire to try and approach her. Kelli had seen the way Aspen flirted and showed off with some of his packmates, and she was not impressed with his playboy attitude.
Heaving a sigh, Eowyn removed herself from between them,

Mountain's Majesty [Raid]    Dawn was little more than a faint lightening of pitch black to charcoal grey. The relentless sleet continued to bombard Azazael and Saphira, coating their furs and cloaks with a thin layer of ice. The dogs, Oliver and Borimer, trudged along beside them, scampering under outcroppings of rocks or overhanging tree branches when they could.    “Not much farther,” Zae reassured the miserable creatures. “There’s a pathway through the mountain not long from here.” He hoped. It was very possible that they had been turned around or strayed from the path in the current weather.
Half an hour passed and the small exploration party was beginning to lose hope that they would have shelter from the storm. They almost gave up and retreated toward the treeline across the valley, when Boromir, a young hunting hound, and shortly after, Oliver,

“Saphira, this way!” The voice of her human companion, Zae, was a beacon of hope to the horse. At only four and a half years old, she was inexperienced with many of the more extreme terrains that surrounded their home. If she was going to learn about it, though, this was one way to do it. Placing her feet carefully, she followed the glow of Zae’s lantern into a narrow gap in the rocks. It was hardly wide enough for the horse to fit, and she could feel the rough stone grazing her skin as she moved inside.

Zae and Saphira [113]
The cruel chill of the mountains did not subside once the sun had risen. Zae and Saphira were determined to gather treasure from the mountainsides before the snow prevented them from exploring anymore.
“Ready, girl?” Zae yawned, patting Saphira’s neck groggily. Saphira snorted in reply, a puff of breath coming from her nostrils. “Alright, let’s go meet up with the rest of the convoy.” Zae let out a shrill whistle, calling the dogs to their side. “No time like the present, after all.” Urging the mare forward, the small group moved across the frosted field to meet their fellow explorers before heading into the treacherous clutches of the mountains looming across the valley.

He quickly took the hint and ran off to ambush Aspen instead. Aspen, though cowardly, quickly shook off his shock at being pounced on and was soon playing a highspeed game of chase with Grant. July Became December [Hunting]Zae, Saphira, Copper (436)
Zae and Saphira lead the pack into the rain sodden Tartok Foothills, hoping that going south from their tribe territory would allow them to find some sort of prey to hunt. Near the Vandreren territory the fields and forests were barren. All of the animals had gone south or hidden from the cold in their dens. Zae wished he had the same option, but at least the rain that normally drenched the foothills had slowed to an annoying drizzle. The normal sized canines, Boromir the hound, Aldo the wolf, and Oliver the Hellhund, pranced impatiently alongside the drakehest. Copper looked impatient, too, but the dire was more well behaved. If he acted up there was a good chance he would scare off any prey that was around them. The trio on the other side of Zae and Saphira might have been able to recover some animals, but it would be a long shot.

“Do any of you know where we are?” Stephen asked, stretching his arms above his head. His back popped several times, helping to release the stiffness that came with sleeping in such an odd position. The former king glanced around his companions, nodding slowly when none of them were able to offer any assistance. The man sighed heavily. “I didn’t think so.”
