The morning was dreary with no sign of sunlight through the thick onset of fog. It made it difficult for Rohan to see the nearby treeline where he’d desperately watched for any signs of life. He’d been separated from his sister and traveling companion, Holly and her young colt Sandstone, whilst in search of their cousin’s herd. They’d planned to join Bramble for the spring to give Sandstone some stability and sense of familiar bonds. A trio of wide eyed bachelors charged rampantly through the chutes connecting the makeshift pens, shying away from Bramble’s pinned ears as they ran past his pen. The wild bay bachelor balked, sending his two leopard friends skidding through the dusty footing and causing their brightly colored sabino friend to stumble. Alecto barked out an order at them to keep moving. Alecto and Bramble had been fortunate enough to warrant a private pen, allowing Bramble to heal without too much interference. Most of the wild eyed mustangs roaming through the larger, and more crowded, holding pens had no such luck. Every so often the humans culled some of them and allowed them to go free. The influx of strange weather had brought on a series of floods, causing the once grassy meadows to become a swampy mess. Many of the herds within the valley chose to travel to higher elevations up the mountains in search of drier ground. But not Sreten’s herd, no Sreten’s herd was remarkably undeterred by the soggy grazing grounds. Cadbury was rolling in the grass when Aippaq appeared to him, grass stuck in his mane and smudges of dirt on his face – a hell of a way to greet the most powerful deity. The tokota’s handler was about thirty yards away, tightening a temporary wire around a wooden fence post. Neither of them noticed initially, but the wolf swore to them later that his fur stood on end moments before the deity appeared in the middle of the pasture, which explained the odd growl that crawled out of his muzzle just as an ethereal white beast blinked into view, stark against the emerald grass around them. Blue flames that didn’t burn anything shot out from Aippaq’s mane and tail, and Cadbury shot to his feet, mouth rudely agape. His attention drawn by growling, Kal spun and dropped the tools from his gloved hands, equally dumbstruck. The deer herd scattered, leaving deep hoof prints in the white layer on the ground as they fled the clearing in a panic, running for their lives. Snow kicked up in their wake, creating an actual flurry of confusion as the tokotas tried to regroup and give chase. The deep snow made it difficult to find traction, and Challenger and Blue Ember found themselves failing to make a sharp turn through the trees, instead stumbling until they were face-first in the snow. Aadhya and Ava stayed upright, but their speed was horribly impacted by the cold layer at their feet. Kal clomped over, the snow nearly covering the tops of his boots. He gave them all a sympathetic look and watched as the last of the deer disappeared into the forest, clinging to what shadows they could in the afternoon sunlight. Rauche, the Iron-Hearted Magnate Character: Villainous Alignment: Neutral Evil Type: Corporate Magnate, Genocidal Maniac, Vengeance-Seeker, Artillarist Artificer Faction: Alvslog Deer Herds (formerly), Sonnenwende (formerly), Ironheart Industries "Tradition shall rue the day it took everything from me." Tradition has its place, but there are some occasions they become chains that cause harm, even deaths. One example of this that would create a monster is Rauche, the Iron-Hearted Magnate. Rauche was born in the Alvslog Deer Realm of Sonnenwende as a stag named Trefoil. His life would be mostly normal, if showing signs of exceptional intelligence from a young age. He would grow up, marry a doe named White Rose and fall deeply in love with her. They would have a family, and they would prosper, having a good life. This happiness ended when tragedy struck. White Rose and their children fell horribly ill, and none of the Alvslog Deer's traditional remedies were able to cure them.

Story:

Mercutio's nostrils flared, filled by the scent of the sea. Somewhere in the distance a horse whinnied for his attention, receiving only a brief flick of the ear.

“Pretty, isn’t it?” Eva spoke. Her hand came to rest on the stallion’s neck. “Look you fill now, you’ll need to be focused soon.”

The woman let the lead line out. Mercutio took no time in exploring. His hooves sunk into the squishy sand, coming free with soft sucking sounds the closer he got to the water. Heart pounding, he stopped at the edge of the water. This was not like the lake at home. Lowering his head, he lapped at the water. What was this? Salt? He lapped at it again, snorting and stamping a hoof down. The stallion eased forward a few more steps, prancing in place when the sea sucked the sand out from under his hooves.

Before he could go any farther, though, an announcer called their number and Eva pulled him away. The sea would have to wait until later. It was show time.
