Long Time, No See
The last of the desperate scramble were starting to settle down now, Fish could tell. His sides heaved in and out, struggling for breath, but somehow he managed to keep on going until he escaped the reach of the researchers trying desperately to split the stampede and round up the stragglers. He was tired, but not stupid. He wouldn't go. He did, however, have to quit eventually, and when he did, he finally looked around without the red haze of panic coating every action, each thought reduced to animal panic as he fought even just to keep his footing without tripping to a worse fate than this. What he realized was quick, and unfortunate, coming in three parts: one, he had no idea where he was. Two, he had no idea how to get back. And three, worst of all... he couldn't see a single member of his herd. Figures.
