I dreamed of skies, a canvas vast, Where clouds were not my chains, But whispers soft, to carry me Beyond the reach of pain. My wings were forged in tender hope, With threads of light and fire, Each feather born from distant stars, Each beat an upward choir. But in this world, the winds are cruel, And dreams are sharp, like glass, I soared too high, I touched the flames, And found them cold, alas. The skies that beckoned turned to stone, And every gust a tear, My wings, once bold, began to crack, Each fall a whispered fear. The first snowfall of the season brought a mixture of emotions to Sreten’s herd. Some were grateful for the shelter and food provided by the two-leggeds during this time. Whilst still others were apprehensive and eager to be on their way once more. Sreten, for one, was not at all bothered by their extended stay. They had food, water, and shelter. Rohan paced the fenceline, hooves wearing a path in the trodden earth. Long green grass damp with morning dew wet his legs as he brushed past. The morning was dreary with no sign of sunlight through the thick onset of fog. It made it difficult for Rohan to see the nearby treeline where he’d desperately watched for any signs of life. The holding pens were absolute chaos. A trio of wide eyed bachelors charged rampantly through the chutes connecting the makeshift pens, shying away from Bramble’s pinned ears as they ran past his pen. The wild bay bachelor balked, sending his two leopard friends skidding through the dusty footing and causing their brightly colored sabino friend to stumble. Alecto barked out an order at them to keep moving. Alecto and Bramble had been fortunate enough to warrant a private pen, allowing Bramble to heal without too much interference. Most of the wild eyed mustangs roaming through the larger, and more crowded, holding pens had no such luck. Every so often the humans culled some of them and allowed them to go free. Just yesterday a respectable band stallion, Medieval, and his herd had been allowed to go. Alecto hoped he and Bramble would be next. Atticus is staying at IEC as part of a rehabilitation program for juvenile offenders who qualify for probation, but have nowhere to go outside of Juvie. He has no experience with horses, but was willing to do anything to avoid spending more time in a jail cell. Eva is the only one at IEC who knows why he was arrested, and agreed to house him and put him to work since she was shorthanded and believed it was a good way to offer Atticus another chance at turning his life around.

Originally arrested for defensive assault with a deadly weapon. Since no one was seriously injured or killed, he got a minimal sentence. He has also been arrested for theft, truancy, and breaking and entering.
