Reading: The Emerging Artists Handbook
To say it's been a few years would be a massive understatement. I'm making an effort to return to my old social hubs before the advent of Facebook, regaining my presence both on Deviantart, as well as on FurAffinity and the like. Just an update on where I've been, what's been happening, new art, etc:
I moved around the country a bit. I started in Ontario, moved on to Nova Scotia to get my BFA, and then off to British Columbia to see what to do with my newfound training and new life. I slipped into a crippling depression that nearly cost me everything. I've since pulled out of that and other than the odd bit of anxiety, I'm much more on the level. In the process I've learned a great deal about myself and the world around me, and I may have gained a bit of cynicism and wisdom along the way.
My art-making process has evolved, and as per usual, I've focused a lot of it into the natural environment. I draw, paint, and journal almost daily, and it's a very cathartic process. During the depths of my depression, my art making was cut off and I think that was a huge contributor to my decline. Without active self-therapy- without my continuous art making, I fell down pretty damned hard. I've since washed my hands of it and am focusing on new series- including that of forest whales. It's fantastic challenging myself in the realms of lighting, colour mixing, paint and brush control, and tackling large scale canvases (averaging around 18" x 36").
I've since made a few really good friends in town, and am very thankful for their presence. I've also spent a lot of time hiking the local rainforest, snowshoeing the mountaintops, swimming in the ocean, and riding my bike. There's a lot of good back in my life again, and while challenges will always be hurled my way, I somehow manage to keep pressing on.
Just a note- commissions ARE open (I may take a while to get back to you though- contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for serious inquiries), and I also have a limited amount of recent work up on Society6 under ajkutchaw.
