Got Viscera? by tallydragon Got Viscera? by tallydragon
It does a dino good.

My rendition of a juvenile Guanlong wucaii ("Crowned dragon"), the earliest known tyrannosaurid. They were probably feathered, a lot smaller than rexes, and had crests on their heads. I figure he's still getting his adult plumage in so he isn't going to be too flashy yet, and he's still in the gawky stage too. This guy was fun. :D

I wanted to do something cute and gruesome--innocent, but violent. I think he actually looked a lot more innocent before I turned the organ in his mouth from a stomach to a heart; that added something just slightly sinister. But really, he's just a big baby playing with his food. Like a kitten!

Actually, my initial urge was just to draw a blood mustache. ^_^; I hope this isn't too mature--I've seen a lot gorier stuff than this on deviantart put under a normal rating, and I don't really view it as violence so much as a very messy lunch. (that, and at the time I started this I was doing a whole heap of dissections, so I'm totally jaded to innards). But if people feel like it's too much then I can switch it to mature.

For some reason I feel very attached to this. When I look at it I feel like it is in some way a self-representation. Sometimes I am the heart, and sometimes I am the teeth.

Pencil sketch on computer paper, colored in adobe photoshop with a tablet.

this is great! the only thing that's super wrong is that a guanlong or any other theropod can't turn their wrists like we can. So putting it's hand on the ground like that is impossible. This is so so cute!

awww, he reminds me of a story I wrote using dinos. I had the same concept, innocent but violent. This guy is too cute.

Perhaps you are a vorarepheliac...?

Indeed, that is detailed, if not a little gory...

Wow, what an incredibly realistic portrayal. I'm actually quite stunned that you have such talent when you work very hard on this..
I'm not sure what to say aside from the fact that you've really shocked me with the coloring and superb scale detail.

Aww, thank you! ^_^ Hehe, you wouldn't believe the full-size version of this thing, its even more crazy detailed. (I've been coloring dino-fluff on and off for about a month!). the secret is to be obscenely (insanely?) stubborn. but needless to say, my turnout rate of pics is really, really low.

Thanks again! ^_^

Awww! He so cuuute. Now lil' Wucaii, eat the whole heart! It's got vitamins in it! *pinches scaly cheek and is promptly eaten* I love the detail. Such as the bloody trail of some poor shmuck's hand rakeing the ground as he or she is lovingly eaten alive <3. And the little sliver of meat draped across one of his toes. The colors are pretty too :3.

Thank you, I'm so glad you liked him! ^_^ Oooh, and you noticed the little sinewy bits I put on his toes! Yay! I didn't think anybody would even spot them but I couldn't help myself...he was so cute I got really into it, and suddenly drawing morbid bloody bits everywhere was more fun than it sounds like it would be. ^_^; Thank you again!
