human quiz for asari by Taleeze human quiz for asari by Taleeze
Left asari: "I... I don't get it."
Right asari: "But it's totally easy. You go left, I go right. Those humans take those kind of things very serious. See you in a bit."

(These signs are actually from the game itself. So obviously we still use these pictographs in the 23rd century and confuse aliens)

I don't get it either. What's the joke? Go to the left, cause that's the one that less likely, to get you beaten or raped. I know all about ASARI lore, but I'm not aware of anything at all, that would make it logical for an asari to use the mens room, except some peoples childish grasp, of gender. If that's the point... cool.  To devalue the femininity of a fuckin' ASARI, in a huge kick in the face, to a trans woman. Maybe it's mocking the fact that other people think these two should have a problem, but things like this are just an annoying, trigger, that I'm tired of seeing be misunderstood by the people that comment on it.  That makes me feel the need to chime in, as well.

There's no need to earn more contempt from the non-extreme left people, by peddling bullshit lies, like that trans is intrinsically about having a problem with the gender binary. That's cis people's confusion and refusal to let us BE the one we know we are. So YOU guys make up this third gender stuff, to make YOUSELVES more comfortable. Or else yer mistaking some hipster gender queer teenager in a phase, for an actual trans person. We really are pretty rare. I personally try NOT to be an enabler of right wing beliefs.

It's like that third gender symbol people plaster all over anything with a trans person. They like it and think it's so cute, even tho it totally devalues the individuals identity. Even some of US who are too dumb to think about it for five seconds, even use it.

I'm trans. I'm totally ok with a two gender future. I, personally, am just fine, with the two. There's never been any confusion, on MY part, which one to go in. Just the confused perceptions of outsiders, even if they sometimes think they're being helpful... by sympathizing, with inner/in the moment debates like this... that don't actually happen, in real life, beyond perhaps that first time... or having the fear that somebody is going to harass us, either way. But we don't stand there, in public, having a "what am I" debate. Jesus, enough with visual that.  This trope is horrible and should stop. It doesn't help. It reinforces the wrong ideas of the people who are dangerous to us.

We don't want you to fight for us with signs that say "We support insane, crazy people"   We'd rather you just said you supported our right to be normal if we wanna be, like everyone else. That'd be great, too.

But yeah... This isn't clever and makes no sense.... It makes my head hurt and my chest ache, typing thing.  It naively assumes trans people are sad because of confusion. I'm sad... because of things like this... seemingly made by people who act like they're allies... but it's exactly this kind of thinking and misunderstanding that leads to REAL problems for us, like job placement and having families. That no matter how great you look or how obviously female you are in personal presentation and experession, as the Asari so thoroughly are....  if theres any doubt as to your anatomy, suddenly OTHER people project all this ambiguity onto people who use nothing but female pronouns on each other cause well.. look at em!

FTM's seem to have more of a problem with the bathroom thing... because they're understandably afraid of guys much bigger than them.  But this confusion trope, has been juxtiposed onto the more topical and oft parodied mtf's. Just... whenever cis people talk about this stuff, THEY get it all screwed up and confused.

The real issues, for trans people are dark and not humorous at all.  So I guess, you gotta stick to goofy, nonsensical slapstick.

I like the joke the asari makes, brings a bit of humor to the horribe issues people have to face because this business is taken so seriously.
People just want to pee. Let them.

PS: I like it especially because one is wearing a dress and one is wearing a pair of trousers.
It really should be like that. Those in "dresses" (figuratively spoken) should be allowed in there, regardless of genitalia.
This render is actually a masterpiece.

I would not think of many problems but jut wondering about how complicated some things can be with gendered species.

I think it even states that they are initially female by physiological standards... they can reproduce with anything since they do not use external or DNA specific organs to mate.  Nor can they get other females races pregnant.  They still carry, birth, and breast feed a child like a female. (which is why they would still require breasts and a womb... and would technically not pee standing up)  So, that said... using the woman's room would only be logical, right?  Any other reason is purely a social standard.  >.<  Sorry for over analyzing this.

This wouldn't be an issue, actually. The asari already pretty much identify as female (as seen in their speech and attire, not to mention their physiology), so they'd always use the women's restroom.

That, or I'm over analyzing a joke again.

They don't know what the word female or male mean since they are monogendered.

But they use a whole lot of female gender pronouns when referring to themselves. They know full well what the terms mean, hell, they even refer to the non birthing parent as the father.

Father means the parent who impregnates the other, to them it isn't male centered.

And the she thing could easily be our translators trying to find the most appropriate, they do speak a separate language.

That's about how I see it too. Liara says "Gender has no meaning for us." (an aspect I find greatly underrated in asari and their portrayal often enough, that's about as fascinating as a scifi society gets!) Since in human language there is no way to express this properly, of course the self appointing is female, the closest approximation. But I would guess their own language, while knowing the concept of gender for animals and other species, has much different words and no gender structure when referring to themselves.

The hilarious and subversive part of the human signs is, that even in the 23rd we still seem to reference with pants and skirts to male and female. What that one male crew member in the mini dress from ST:TNG would say about this? He'd go left I suppose.

They do know the difference between male and female. They are the only mono-gendered species in the galaxy, including animals on their home planet of Thessia.

They would have noticed the differences if they ever studied the biology of their world, even before the met the Salarians and the Turians.

Lara herself says "the words female and male are words my people have, s a monogendered society they have no reason to have the words so they sometimes don't understand the difference especially if they are young.

All I'm saying is that they did have a reason to have the words because even before they met the Salarians and the Turians, they had to have animals on their own planet that showed them the concept of male and female, that they were unique.

Also it's true that the asari would still be confused by door signs like that.

I know www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9Veak…

but logically, they must have known the concept even if they do not assign themselves a gender.

Sorry, for being loud down here Taleeze, I'm done.

Depends where they grew up, I guess;) I would say sure, they must know the concept of two biological genders. But these signs are very human specific! It's not even occurred to them to the two that it actually refers to gender! they just see pants right, dresses left. It has not clicked yet...

Maybe they are for the first time on a human planet/space station.

Heh, cute. :)  Maybe C-Space can get its revenge, with a human looking puzzled at two signs both showing elcor silhouettes that look identical.

I guess the separated arms are just to make it look 'future' - maybe whoever made the first 'space clothes' before humanity met everyone else was a big Space 1999 fan, and copied their 'one coloured sleeve' designs.
