The Demiurge And The Archons

From My Gnostic Studies In Gnostic texts, the Apocryphon of John and The Hypostasis of the Archons, the birth of the Archons is a story of imitation, shadow, and stolen light.

The myth begins with the Demiurge cast out of the divine realm, The Pleroma, finding himself alone in the chaos of the abyss, he mistakenly believed he was the only god. To mimic the divine order of Creation he vaguely remembered, the Demiurge produced twelve authorities, the Archons to rule over the material world.The universe, the domain of the Archons, is like a vast prison whose innermost dungeon is the earth, the scene of man's life... The Archons collectively rule over the world, and each individually in his sphere is a warder of the cosmic prison."
