Come What May

Description

UPDATE: Changed the background! I keep finding new and spiffy things on Corel 4 that came with my Wacom tablet :D Much fun with fireworks, as that's one of the things that looked good. I've got a second version in the works with Nate in the background too! :D

"For I have crossed the Rubicon
Let the bridge be burned behind me
Come what may, come what may

Commitment!

The croakers all say we'll rue the day
There'll be hell to pay in fiery purgatory
Through all the gloom, through all the gloom
I see the rays of ravishing light and glory!

Is anybody there? Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?

I see fireworks! I see the pagaent and
Pomp and parade
I hear the bells ringing out
I hear the cannons roar
I see Americans - all Americans
Free forever more!"

~ Is Anybody There, 1776 the musical

That song there is my pick-me-up song. It's from a 1970's musical called 1776, and yes, our founding fathers dance and sing all over the stage, but I *highly* recommend it. Don't look to it for exact historical accuracy, but it is still one of my personal favorites. I've been listening to the song a lot, in light of current events. Every time I feel like backing down I remember this wonderful scene where John Adams is talking with Abigail and she says something to the extent of "Do you remember what you've always told me, John, because I haven't forgotten. 'Commitment, Abby. Commitment.'" It's very encouraging.

Anyway, for those of you that follow my Liberty Pole art, you know that this is Bethany Adams. She's a some-odd great grandaughter of John and Abigail, so I find it highly appropriate that she is the one that has gained this title. The background might change, I don't know.... I'd really like your input in it, because I went back and forth on so many ideas. I was thinking maybe the Liberty Pole itself in the background, but then I thought it might look funny, or perhaps Nate and Freedom in the back... This could be the cover for the novel, maybe? i don't know. Ideas would be wonderful and very, very welcome.

The artwork is done in prisma markers with touchups and background done in Corel 4.

Can't believe I didn't comment D:
I love the fireworks and the pose. Kudos for the motion in the pic! You can really feel the energy.

I love that song and the movie! 8DD I just don't really like how they make John Dickinson look like a villain. He was actually a pretty cool guy. :)
As for historical accuracy, I dug this up! Very interesting. ^^
