I love those dark Russian folktales, where a miller's son may kiss a princess but has quite the same chance to get mauled by her father who is, of course, a were-bear. Or Baba Yaga in her chicken-legged cabin who eagerly grants you your heart's desire but the price is always, always too high. Koschei the Deadless and his brides who seldom last longer than a night, the old man ruslaka who hides in dark pools. This picture will be used as cover for a picture book with thirty (perhaps even forty) stories and A4 B&W illustrations from my Dark Matroyska's and Tales of the rabbi It will be published in 2012 by Fantastische Vertellingen. I am writing the stories right now.
