Pensive, forlorn leans
The parking meter
Into the street--
The warped sidewalk pushes
It imperceptibly sideways,
The hat a wayfarer placed
On its head tilts forward,
Black in the streetlights
From afar it seems
A frozen specter,
A head and torso without legs,
Its pole a wisp of air
An urban Thinker--
Statue of an abandoned
Man at the edge of the walkway,
Staring apprehensively downward
And across the street
