Westworld is a show of such philosophical weight that the first question I think we need to address is simply how we think about the medium through which the futuristic western theme park is played. Westworld combines elements of screenwriting, video games, live action role playing, and any type of storytelling.
But with all of that said Westworld is not any of those things in a nutshell. We cannot think of it as a virtual reality video game because it is set in a theme park. That theme park however has android hosts inside of it which are programmed to improvise and- so in that way it is just like a video game.
If you were to vertically plot the mediums of storytelling from most complex to least complex - prose writing would be on the bottom, movies in the center and video games at the top. In the futuristic setting of Westworld, the theme park would be a step above video games. To me it resembles a compli
