And Then There Were 10...There’s 10 statues and 10 djinn, so there’s probably something to that. This mask was obviously what was holding them wherever they were, but how do I get them back in their statues? (Jails? Statue jails? Stails?)
This won’t be easy...and I’m trying to figure out as much as I can by observing them. My quick thoughts:
One is orange, looks kinda like a dog. It’s basically just being still and staring at me. (O_O)
The pink one keeps kinda folding over on itself as it changes. Occasionally, when I can see their face, it looks like they’re smirking.
The purple one just plain freaks me out. So creepy. (๑•﹏•)
Then there’s this gold/yellow djinn. They’re, like, part human, part ram? They’re very expressive, constantly moving their hands. I feel like I should be wary of getting within arm’s reach…
The red djinn is disconcertingly large and is, well, fidgety isn’t a strong enough word. It feels
Every End Is Another Beginning...
The Shaitan continues to slowly circle me, literally. Their tails loop around to just touch their body, effectively surrounding me. “Yes,” they draw out, emphasizing the S. “You shall be an excellent pet.”
Yeah, NOPE. Gotta end this now. They’re too close for me to escape and make it to the statue -- I could leap over their tails but they’ve got such reach, no way I get there. So there’s only one option left...
I put my right hand in my pocket, clutching the Eclipse Stone in preparation (and for assurance). I wait until their leisurely circle brings the bulk of their body to my right...AND THEN I GO FOR IT!
Pulling the stone out of my pocket, I lunge for the last djinn! They move out of the way, and hiss at me. THEY. HISSED. AT. ME. ಠ益ಠ
I notice something peek out from behind a column behind the djinn. It’s a mask, or rather they’re wearing a mask. Whoever it is puts their index
The Beginning of the End...I began pacing in thought. “What if we don’t have enough people, I mean bearers,” I asked.
Jamil pondered for a moment. “Every single bearer fortifies us. We could always use more but I trust that we will have enough--”
“But what if we don’t?” I felt bad for interrupting but I think my nerves were finally getting to me. I’d managed to keep on task up until now but, if I’m being honest, the Marid kinda got to me. “What if doing what I’ve been doing isn’t enough?”
Before Jamil could finish his reply, a silver light enveloped him...and was gone! Oh...oh, no...
“Jamil,” I called out. “Jamil, this is not funny….”
I hoped very hard that he just pulled his own disappearing act. That’s when I caught a silver shimmer out of the corner of my eye. I whipped around to face whatever was there, though in the pit of my stomach I think I already knew.
