Roleplaying a disruptive character
I am of the belief that roleplay can help people understand and see different viewpoints from their own, as its purpose is to step into another’s shoes and see the world through their eyes. However, often this can be extremely difficult, depending on the reception the character receives to the player’s own reactions and thoughts on the character and their role in the story of the roleplay.
Especially when it comes to a character type I call the disruptive character. A disruptive character is a character that differs from the majority of the group in some way. Usually, they are darker and edgier than their fellow characters, but this isn’t always the case. Even though this character type might seem made to ruin games, I sincerely believe that a disruptive character can be a breath of fresh air for a roleplaying group. These characters can offer internal challenges and moral questions for other characters and therefore create interesting plots.
