This is a painting I always keep in my heart and mind because of my admiration for the model and for what he symbolizes. My intention with this painting was to pay homage his strength, dignity and character. It is a simple composition, but I labored for a long time to get it right before I picked up a brush.

the sheen of his skin is amazing.

Like fire is encased in his eye.

I’m not sure If you realize this Todd that the first time I seen this was an hour after he died. Picture taken Dec 3, 2005 his death Dec 5, 2005.

The small area that you captured is more revealing than a photo of him ever could be, this is a testimonial for people who say “why not just take a photo”, no photo could ever do this and very, very few painters could, this painting brings a bit of him back.

Well I’m in tears now, damn it all.

Love you bro

Armin

Don’t you start to cry, because if you do then I’m going to…

I never did realize that was the first time that you saw it. Now that you say it, I suppose that it must have been. I still kills me that he never got to see the piece. Yeah, it is much like the drawing of your mom, it has nothing to do with a photo, and everything to do with being the one that painstakingly labors over every inch of the piece. There is some kind of obligation rooted in love going on there.

I love you to my brother.
