Mermaids by SythraNightshade Mermaids by SythraNightshade
Just a little resume on mermaids in my world

I'd like to do this kind of thing for every species at some point :P there are so many differences within supernatural specieses that I think a short guide to each would be handy

I love to draw shiny fish tailes~

I tend to believe that:

A- the difference between a siren and a mermaid is purely philisophical (i.e. by choice) rather than physical.  "Sirens" are more aggressive towards humans (i.e. sinking ships, man-eaters, etc), while "mermaids" are neutral unless provoked beforehand.
B- mermaids are female-only and require human males to mate since there are no mermaid males.  Thus, all offspring are also inherantly female.  (I haven't decided what would hapen if a male baby were to appear.  Consider it an abomination?  Abandon it?  Kill it?  Presumably their entire social structure would be unable to cope with a male of their own species.)
C- they cannot transform through either magic or physical evolution.
D- the interior structure of their tails are more like a sea lion or dolphin- NO HUMAN-LIKE KNEE!  :shakefist:

Well, I guess everyone uses the given mythology different right? :D
I just wanted to write down my interpretation of it in my own world. (btw in that world there's a big part of the total species that can shape-shift so it's not only mermaids who can do it :P )

But I must agree to your last point :D
