Welcome to this weeks volume of so we heard you liek emotes. This is the 8th volume in a weekly series aimed towards promoting emote and emoticonists from the dA community. It features emotes posted within the past week from both well known and new emoticonists, as well as featuring some other great emote projects and contests.
Featured Emoticons:</u>
1.
The emote in :bouncythrust: by trezoid is the lasted victim of the dead thrust virus that has been plaguing the emoticon gallery for some time. The symptoms of this emote are especially cute, with great shading and animation. It would be a great shame to actually cure this patient.
2.
As December is now upon us, the Christmas related emotes are starting to appear. One of these is :powersanta: by Cmotes. Its the attention to detail that really drew me to this emote. The idea is brilliant and very well executed to create a lovely looking xmas themed emote.
3.
:kickflip: is one of a collection of different skateboard related emotes by Serrius07. I feel its a nice little emote that has been accurately made and is a great representation of one of the many activities that emotes can take part in without legs/feet. It will be interesting to see what other tricks this emote can get up to.
4. :thumb105239882:
Christmas story by Krissi001 is another Christmas related emote that has appeared on the scene. This is a great example of how emotes can be used in comic strip. Each image is nicely pixeled, and tells a brilliant little Christmas story. It also goes to show that they emotes dont need to be animated to look great.

Questions </u>
Q: Why do some emotes look slower in my web browser than in my animation program?
A: Some web browsers have a minimum frame rate at which emotes can be viewed. This is generally 0.7seconds. Therefore if you place a faster frame rate on an emote, this will look far slower in the web browser (I currently know this affects Internet Explorer and possibly others). If you wish to view the emotes at the correct speed, the suggested web browser to use is Firefox as this allows any frame rate.
Q: Ive heard some people talking about a GM. What are they and do we have one?
A: a Gallery Moderator (Also known as a GM) is the new name for a Gallery Directors (GD). These are deviants represented by a ^ who look after and keep an eye on a specific gallery. Our current GM is Chimpantalones
Q: What are Kao and do they belong in the emoticon gallery?
A: Kao, also known as kaoani are Japanese emotes. They are generally much larger than average emotes and there are certain rules each must follow. These include, each must float at least once, contain no feet/legs and be created in a canvas size no larger than 40x40 pixels. They can either be placed within the emoticon gallery, as they are just large emoticons, or within the pixel art gallery. Some examples of Kao are:
Featured Project </u>

Emote Space Project is one of the less known emoticon projects out there. The project has a simple theme of anything to do with space and currently majorly lacking in entries. Emote projects are great places to meet new emoticonists, or learn how to make emotes yourself, so its well worth checking out.

Only emoticons on the offical deviantART emoticon list [link] will work when typed in comments. Many deviants give them names in the same style of those codes, but they wont actually appear when the code is used.
This may soon change as DA are revamping the emote system.
In the mean time, you can use thumb codes in some places, and on the chat system you can used a script called zikes if you use firefox web browser [link] which allows these emotes to work. There are also a range of accounts known as plz accounts, which have an emote placed as their avatar, so they can be used in comments.
I hope that clears up some stuff for you
