This is very personnal, comment if you'd like, fav if it makes you feel something, but its very personnal, so im not expecting much.
As some know, the place where i lived burned down. I lost everything i had, except my sketchbook, my external hard drive, and my cat.

It's not really my thing, usually, to describe my works, but in this case i will.

first of all, the character is me. after the fire, i've spent a lot of time just sitting, mindless, confused, smoking one cigarette after another.
the window, blocked with wood planks, is the material form of my earlier possessions. the window is blurred, cause the only way i can access all of it is through blurred memories. the smoke coming out, well, you figure it out ;)
the sketchbook, the hard drive and my kitty Spooky are what i saved from the fire.
The painting on the wall is the actual building i lived in, thats how it looked the morning after the fire.
The hung teddy bear is childhood memories, all that stuff you have in boxes in a closet, that you look through once every 2-3 years. those are dead and gone.
The chessboardish floor, i made for allll those pictures. i had an awful lot of pictures, all of which are gone. the light squares are pictures i can easily remember, and the dark ones are those that are blurry, or that i temporarily forgot. the holes in the floor are pictures i wont ever remember.

like i said, im not expecting much from this, it was really just something i needed to do.

i have a new place now, im living with a friend who lived in the same building. things are ok.
you'd never believe the extreme generosity of the people who helped out.

Yes I've fav it because it makes me feel something...
Damned night...
Time passed and it seems that some good things happened after that...
I still keep the pictures of that night in my computer, I know it's weird...
Don't know why...
Maybe it's because it's all that is left of my memories...

But now, life is better for me and I hope so for you !

ps: I think you are better in english than me! =P

wow! I liked it just as a drawing, but with the essplanation it really comes together. no that's not pity, I just wish there was something I could do to help :| I can't imagine losing my stuffs. not that I try to keep stuff around to define myself (or whatever theory of something or another and lot's of mayo) but I'd be pretty upset at losing drawings and photos and stuffs. I don't have a lot of stuffs from my childhood, just a bunch of scattered memories. when my grandma died, she had left my brothers and cousins and I a box of photos (a box each). I have no idea why but I cry everytime I look through them. but I would hate to lose that box.

I wonder if memories can be recovered, like when technicians recover erased data from a hard drive :nerd:
I think the reason I'm so touched by the photos is because I don't remember them happening... like a memory of a thought of memory, I dunno. :slow:

yes... remembering something that wasnt in your memory, and you see the picture and imagine a slight scenery that goes withit without remembering it

Nicely detailed and designed. I really like the contrast and character work. It's moody and expressive.

This picture speaks amazingly loud. I feel this is one of the most significative things you've ever drawn, S. Maybe it's because you explained it and maybe it's because I'm shallow, but that's how it feels.
