Io's Hell by Sylvianas Io's Hell by Sylvianas
I was cruisin' around in Spore as I do a lot, and I came across an unusual sight. I saw this tiny little planet orbiting a gas giant orbiting very close to a blue super giant. I approached the little planet, and it was rather awesome looking. So I made this pic.
Not as happy with it as I'd like. Though I tried some solar flares.
If I ever find that system again, I'll take a screenshot and post it in my scraps.

Download for large 1600 X 1200 pic...which incidentally is the wrong aspect ratio for my own computer...

The flares should (read 'can';) be bigger :p
Umm... other than that, I was about to comment on the fact that you shouldn't be able to see stars that close to a sun, but then I realised that they weren't stars. Thay were flecks of dust on my monitor.
Oh, and I figured out what was wrong with the moon. All planets take a little bit of colour from their star, so the light side should have an ever-so-slight blueness to it, but the dark side shouldn't (or it should have whatever colour is the thing reflecting onto the back. After all, you can see it. Something must be illuminating it).

I agree, the gas giant does look likes its moving (which is fair enough, one would hope it would be moving :D). I like the solar flares, I don't often see them in space art :)

Hmm. I'll have to look out for that next time I play.

I certainly love this picture, it's far better than I could do, but let me offer you some critique, since that is what you desire.

The small planet is wonderful, though it looks a little flat. The bigger planet looks like it's in motion, which it might be done that way pruposefully, I don't know, but it doesn't look right compared to the small planet. I know it's supposed to be a gasesous planet, but perhaps the gases should flow a little more, like they're sort of coiling in and out and around each other. The sun is awsome, I love the glowing effect you used, but maybe it could have a few more splotches and flares.

All this being said, I, once again, could never make something as good as this. I'm not very good at objects and backgrounds....

Thanks for the advice. One can see the errors in fine works even if one cannot do it themselves. Not that I call this 'fine' work.

You've pretty much covered everything I had noticed, which proves that it's not just my imagination. Though I hadn't noticed the gas giant looked like it's moving.

The 'flowing' in the giant was what I was going for...but harder than I thought.

Thanks for the critique :D I think I have ideas on how to do it better next time.
