Hlif-Vindr pack had been abuzz all morning with some exciting news, and Devan was eager to find out what it was but had not had time before starting out for his daily duties to catch the gossip. He set a quick pace for himself as he went about his morning gathering tasks so he could get back to hear whatever the news was that had everyone excited sooner, and before long he was jogging back into camp with a satchel full of fresh fall berries and herbs. Keeping his determined pace as he wove between pack members in the busy camp, he found his way to the cook fires and deposited his bag of goods with one of the caretakers on cooking duty before turning to look for anyone still gathered to talk about whatever had happened. It seemed that the news had settled through most of the camp, but he spotted Kitsune hurriedly entering camp with a satchel as stuffed full as his own had been and heading towards the cooks as well. As she moved quickly past him to set down her burden, Devan turned to his friend with a tired grin. “You miss whatever the hubub was about this morning too?” He asked, and Kitsune nodded with a frown. “I was hoping to get back in time to hear it but everyone seems to have settled down now. I wonder what it was about.” She replied with a sigh, eyes skimming over their packmates all busy about their morning duties now. “Maybe Kaladin would know?” Devan suggested, spotting their pack leader pausing as Amore waved him down nearby.

“Worth a shot.” Kitsune agreed, already moving towards the dark dwarf leader. Devan fell in quickly beside her and as they approached, Kaladin gave them a friendly smile with a quick glance before turning his attention back to Amore. The brute seemed to have asked a question right before they walked up and Kaladin returned his attention to Amore, nodding. “Yes, that’s probably what you two want to know also? What had everyone all stirred up this morning?” Kaladin asked, glancing at Kitsune and Devan with a grin as they nodded eagerly. “Word is that Bartholomew arrived in Hearth this morning, he booked a room at the Inn across from our pack outpost. No one is sure why he is there yet, but many are hopeful he’s come to speak with us about joining.” Devan’s eyes widened in excitement and he saw Kitsune perk her ears with interest while Amore made a small noise of excitement. “So you can see why everyone is worked up now. A few others who are off duty today headed off earlier to see if they could meet him. If you all have finished your duties for the day you would be welcome to head off as well.” Kaladin added as he caught their increased interest at the mention of Bartholomew. Each of the three glanced questioningly at the others and Kaladin nodded a farewell and headed off towards his next task. “We’re done with our duties for the day.” Devan offered, quirking his head at Amore in askance. The purple brute grinned. “Me too! Let’s go then!” he replied, taking the lead to trot off out of camp towards the village that was just across the river as Devan and Kitsune fell in behind him.

The trio had been spending a lot of time together recently, assigned many of the same pack jobs and adventuring in their spare time together so Devan was comfortable jogging along with Kitsune at his side and Amore a step ahead. It was easy to see why the pack had been so excited with this news - Bartholomew was a well known male, about the same age as Kaladin and seemingly likeminded from all the stories that were told of him, though Kaladin and most of the pack members had never actually met him. He was said to travel around Ulfrheim as they did, but alone rather than as a large group, offering his help where it was needed but never staying long after finishing whatever tasks he took on. Many outside of the pack wondered why the lone male had not joined up with the pack known for doing much the same thing, and many among the pack longed to talk to him to hear first hand what he had done. It was well known over Ulfrhiem that Hlif-Vindr had their operations base on the outskirts of Hearth, and the fact that the loner had chosen to take a room at the Inn across from that base rather than one of the many other options around the village was certainly a good reason to speculate he might be coming to talk to the pack. As they jogged along, Devan was glad that he always carried the small satchel with his journal and writing implements so he could jot down anything Bartholomew might tell them if they could actually find him and gain a meeting.

It didn’t take long for them to make their way across the river and to the streets of Hearth, falling into a single file with Amore leading and Kitsune in the rear, Devan trotting along in the middle of the line up as they made their way through the busy village streets. Hearth was busy, but that was common for the small port village. It was a quick walk through the crowds to the Inn that stood on the edge of the town, facing the fair sized addition that Hlif had created to house their non-nomadic members, along with their supply and medical buildings. Amore led the way into the common room of the Inn, quiet now in the time between breakfast and lunch when most patrons were out and about in the town. The three gathered together just inside the door and glanced around at the few vargs who were occupying tables, and Devan nudged his companions with a shoulder and pointed to one table tucked into the back corner of the room where a dark, fluffy figure sat muttering to himself and writing while a mug of mulled cider sat cooling by his paws. “Thats him?” Kitsune asked, eyeing the dwarf that looked like he was mostly hair skeptically. Amore nodded. “Definitely! I’ve heard all that fluff mentioned in some of the stories about him.” the purple male whispered, glancing around the tavern. “Do you think we should find a table? We shouldn’t interrupt him while he’s busy working on something.”

Devan watched the dark wooly scribble some more notes on his page, oblivious to the trio by the door staring at him. “Maybe that’s a good idea…” He muttered, going to move for one of the empty tables near the entrance. Kitsune put out a paw to stop him, and shook her head. “Come on! We can introduce ourselves at least. What if when he is done writing, he has to leave on some errand? Or if someone else goes up to talk to him while we sit around waiting?” She reasoned with the boys, who nodded grudging agreement. Kitsune took over the lead as Devan and Amore followed hesitantly behind her. “Uhm excuse me… Bartholomew?” Kitsune said quietly as they came up to his table. The dwarf blinked in confusion for a moment before glancing up from his paperwork and tilting his head questioningly at them. “Yes?” His tone was neutral, no sign of annoyance on face or in his voice so Kitsune took a deep steadying breath and continued on. “Hi, we wanted to meet you and see if you would mind talking with us some? We’re members of Hlif-Vindr pack - I’m Kitsune, and this is Amore and Devan. We’ve heard so much about you and really just want to talk to you in person.” She blurted out, words jumbling together some as the small male watched her with steady eyes. A long pause followed her words before suddenly the wooly male was smiling up at them and tucking his papers away, “Oh of course, of course. Come on, have a seat. It’s nice to meet you all - now, what did you all want to know?

Devan, Kitsune, and Amore all tried to speak up at once - “I would love to hear tales of your deeds so I could document them in my history of Ulfrheim!” “What was your favorite project so far?” “How many pups have you helped since you started?” Bartholomew laughed lightly as the jumble of questions exploded out of the younger vargs. “Easy now, easy. One at a time ok? I’ll have some questions for you all then too, I’ve heard of your pack! Now, who’s going first?” He asked, settling down and sipping on his now lukewarm cider as the trio glanced at one another to decide who would go first, coming to a silent agreement after a moment before Kitsune began her questions, while Devan fished out his journal to document the conversations. With Bartholomew being so welcoming, it was easy for them to let go of their anxiety and begin to talk with him as if they were all old friends catching up after a long time apart.
