"He's the most indecorous aquatic menace of all-time!"
Next up is 2012's Don't Let the Riverbeast Get You! As I alluded to earlier, of all the redesigns I've done thus far, this is the one I'm the least familiar with, only learning of it when I was researching monsters for this project. As a sucker for fish-people, I couldn't resist adding yet another to the list. As I've also mentioned before, I was trying to limit designing them just as "simple" fish-people, but for this one it felt necessary, especially with the concept I had in mind!
The design of the original is one of those designs where it's unmistakably inspired by fish, but doesn't really look like any breed in particular. I think this is perfectly acceptable, however, if you're making a freshwater fishman, particularly a river-based one, there's a very obvious choice that I've never really seen used before. As is evident by the image above, I'm talking about Salmon, particularly spawning males when they develop a kype. It feels like such an obvious choice, as they are such iconic fish that it felt lie a no-brainer for me to follow this inspiration. I'm glad I did, because I love this design~! Fitting this one into TriZen would be pretty easy, though the plot might need a full-on rework. The Riverbeast would function quite well as a relative to the Deep Ones.
