Is there too much good photography?
Everyday I see thousands of high quality photos pass by. Most filter through the "recent upload" category and never receive any attention or critique... these photos can be very emotive, and I feel they deserve more attention than they get. They are simply drowned out by all the other submissions.
I feel like there are several causes...
1. There are too many artists, and not enough admirers. Face it, photographers like to be out in the field taking photos. The last thing they want to do is sit in front of a computer feeling stagnant, feeling jealous of peoples endeavors... especially after a long day of

Oh dear, deviant art's degradation of quality has finally caught up to me. I'm discouraged with the "most popular" deviations that welcome me to the site and the overwhelming popularity for photos which are cute and meaningless. I've been completely caught up in the trend; my work has done a 360 since last summer and doesn't represent the level of quality I am trying to attain or the originality I want to have in my work.
I'm taking a break from DA until I can gain back who I truly am as a photographer, and stop letting trends and popularity drive me as an artist. It's easy to be commercial, it's a harder to be boutique. I need to get out of
Hey, I just read your journal post from Dec12.. I feel exactly the same way.. on one hand, the plethora of amazing pics energize and inspire.. on the other, I get the feeling it tethers me to a particular style that is popular at the moment.
I know I'm happiest when I'm out and about shooting.. Perhaps I need to take a break from dA, Flickr and the like...
