Haven't drawn all that many pictures on napkins lately, huh?!

So straightforward- just a standing facing forward character picture!  I wanted to color her yellow stockings.

When in doubt ......draw Jane. :D

The splash of orange is interesting; it looks like it could be shading, a shimmer effect, or a pattern on the dress (depending on how one wants to look at it) :>

Ha ha, well, she's so easy to draw.

It wound up a bit more orange in the scan than in person, where I guess I just meant it as shading, but I like the idea of it as some kind of shimmer effect too.

I suppose having an image sit in a scanner bed would alter the color somehow.

(And I'm on a new calendar page today!) I feel like it's been so long since I've seen some of these images (the ones near the end) XD; Guess it's a purely subjective feeling, but...

For a long time now (since before this scanner, I think), I've had a bit of difficulty getting the scanned napkin images to look quite how I intend them too for posting online.  I can't quite figure out how to adjust them (at scanning or in Photoshop) to make the right parts dark and not too dark and such...

(hey! :D )  I feel that way too- "Oh, it's this picture!" I feel like I keep saying in the second half of the year.  How the passage of time feels is a pretty subjective thing, I think.

Ah! well! I'm an avid abuser of Levels (Cmd+L) and I typically start by fiddling with the midtones slider dial to get certain parts dark but not too dark, as you so put it. Likewise, I use the dark tones slider to get my scanned inks nice and black, while using the lite tones slider to eliminate unwanted flecks and scratches.

Well it's a more apparent shift when it switches from Jane+Horatio to Persy+Maurice. XD; More so than a calendar with more neutral scenery that keeps the same general tone and feel.

My brother always insists on Curves (Cmd+M) but I always think of Curves as "same as Levels, but for people who want to look extra smart" :iconsmartyplz:

lol  I'm not sure I've ever used Curves, so I'd be likelier to try out Levels first and see if I can get what I want out of that one
