I decided to vacation/explore in a remote mountain area of Mexico.  Yes, remote from all the crime and savage killings of the Mexican drug lords and their ruthless henchmen.  That only occurs in the "big cities"; or so I believed.  As I was driving my way up the Diablo Range (my poorly chosen destination), and while still in the foothills, the few locals I chanced to come in contact with(and the few that spoke English) all seem to be thinking I was crazy for wanting to continue in my destination.  When I asked why, many seemed too afraid too talk.  Others seemed, at first, somewhat willing but quite reluctant.  By chance I came across a seemingly powerfully built man riding on a large, expensive-looking motorcycle (a rarity in these parts).  "What's with these local folks?",  I asked.  Were the locals loco?  He too, was reluctant, but after some consideration, he eventually broke the silence.   He told me sternly, "The mountains are dangerous and it will be in your best interest to turn back!"  "Why?" I asked.  He was silent again.  I insisted on an explanation and he soon began talking, but in a way that was not fully understandable.  There was obviously something he was trying to hide.  In order to learn more, I asked, "Dangerous?  In what way?  Drug lords?  Banditos?"  He said, "No, no banditos, no drug lords!  Even they wouldn't dare trek in these parts."   "Wild animals?"  I asked.  I told him I was fully armed and had previous experience in dealing with wild animals.  He said, "Your weapons will be of no use if you confront what lurks up in those parts!"  "What!", I exclaimed,  "What are you talking about?"  But he would say no more on the subject, other than that I would never believe him and that I'd be wise to turn back.   His last words were, "I tried to warn you, amigo!"  And he drove off on his bike.  But what I soon discovered was that these cold, morbid mountains were going to be anything but peaceful, in fact, knowing what I know now, I think I'd have prefered Mexico's underworld to my new found surroundings!

This picture is a most-excellent Latino-Version of the legendary vampire myth (or anyway, that's my interpretation; correct me if I'm wrong)!  And, if you haven't already guessed, it's also story inspiring too!
