finally i have my Iranian visa application on the way, i have researched travel options and most importantly i have money and time (holiday). my boyfriend is coming with me so it will be fun.

the train from Istanbul to Tehran leaves on Tuesdays sooo ...i think we will be leaving on a Tuesday. arrival is on Friday. hopefully we can visit 3 cities (Tehran, Isfahan and Shiraz). then make our way back to Van by bus (city in Turkey near the border) and fly to Istanbul from there. the flights from Tehran to Istanbul were quite expensive.  life in Iran should be cheap though, the food and stuff. and I already found at least one couch. a previous couchsurfing guest is in Isfahan so itll be now great to see his place in turn.

i am CERTAIN i had a contact from deviantart who is in Iran but i couldnt find a note ...  where are you? and where is everyone else? i want to meet some ppl! deviantart is not banned in Iran, or is it?

It's one of advantages of living in Iran! You'll learn lots of different languages! (I know 6 languages :D)
Hope you had a good trip :)

I hope you have fun on your trip. Of course I have to say "be careful" lol. Being from the US we hear such bad things about Iran, but I know better. I have read a lot about that part of the world I know it is a modern forward thinking country, not some backward terrorist training area with people riding camels.
I remember growing up here in Texas and people from other parts of the country thinking we all rode horses and had oil wells everywhere! :P

yea, the government is what it is there, but people are apparently quite amazing, and some of the friendliest i have ever met. my governments official page says that atm the country is safe to visit but one should be careful also and maybe avoid very desolate areas. thats good enough for me.

I have "Iranian blood" and I've been to Iran a couple of times. I'm wondering why you chose Tehran (I'm curious to know why you'd like to go to Iran in general too)? It doesn't feel like the "touristy" place to me, but I guess you know best! I particularly liked the north best, specifically Kelardasht and Rasht. It was really peaceful and quiet. We had this apartment that was very close to the clouds, it was fantastic.
Iran is quite amazing and people are friendly. Very few speak English, but it's alright. I reckon you have a tour guide?
Don't let people scare you with Iran. They're not crazy terrorists like some people think.
The food is great. I'm used to food like this where I'm from, but it was still pretty wonderful.
Hope you have a great trip!

well i just like going to different places. Iran is different, at least :) some of my friends went there and had positive things to say, mainly about the people.

the train goes to Tehran, so, not a choice really, it just happens.

no tour guide, but i have some contacts in the country. ive traveled before, i think i can figure it out, dont worry :)

if i thought they were crazy terrorist, i wouldnt be going, right? :)

It sure is :D

I really, really wish I could be there to meet you. It would be such an amazing experience for me. If you ever go to the Gulf Countries (I'm from Bahrain), I'd love to meet you and give you a tour or something. Sucks that we aren't interesting and are all the same :/. Dubai is great, though. If you ever go there, I'd nag mum to let me go, haha.

I love that you are not close minded like some are. Good luck and take care :D I'm really excited to see the pictures and read about your experience. Will you write a journal about it when you come back?

Still current at: 13 October 2011
Updated: 12 October 2011

This advice has been reviewed and reissued with an amendment to the Travel Summary (US State Department worldwide travel alert). The overall level of the advice has not changed; we advise against all travel to within 100km of the Iran/Afghanistan border; to within 10km of the Iran/Iraq border; east of the line running from Bam to Jask and includes all travel to Bam.

everyone knows the US and Iran arent the best of friends. i wouldnt advise US citizens to go round there either... just to be on the safe side. but people actually go there all the time, its not war zone, foreigners are not killed/imprisoned there randomly...unlike some medias would have u believe.

but thanks for being so thoughtful, after all, i probably dont know wtf im doing, right? :)

no no I didnt say that you didnt know wtf you were talking about. it's not the media thats warning you it's the actual airline thats warning you. I just wouldnt go to a place were there was a worldwide warning going out. I don't think anything will happen to you, but your also taking a big chance. It just like mexico, or iraq your taking a chance there too. I just wouldnt ever visit any third world country unless I really knew what I was getting into. In those countrys they dont care if your American or not. Their laws are different and their culture is completely different. I would risk my life to go on a vacation. Especially if the warnings are out there. It just common sense

u keep referring to Americans, which im not. in some places, its NOT a good thing to be american anyway.

anyway, yes, there is a higher risk in going to Iran than in going to Sweden for example. im aware of it, i have contacts in Iran, ive gotten familiar with some local customs and things. my government's official pages say that it is safe to go to Iran but one should be cautious and avoid very desolate areas etc. makes sense, and i think this is good advice.

i was in Mexico in 2004 or something, was a great trip, met some awesome deviants there too :) most of Mexico is safe and peaceful if u have common sense, but some areas have big problems.

Hey there, I'm Iranian but I live in Canada now. I thought I could give you a couple of tips. From what I've heard from the family food prices and, just prices in general have gone up considerably. Essentially everything is as expensive as it is here with the current exchange rate, so you might want to be careful about your cheap assumption. Of course some things still remain very cheap, like most services.

Other than that, enjoy. People are generally very friendly, but with the current economic and political state they may be a little grumpy at times.
