the sun rises
the sun sets.
some days seem shorter than others.
u know what i mean.

i never understood why they leave their shoes on the railing... and i keep wondering would i, too?

would've put this in expressive but hell, i have never posted anything in 'infants and children' and altho it lacks the kid, she was there just a moment ago still (girl shoes). i like the calm feel, the water looked interesting.

I do love it very much, by the way.

This actualy makes me feel sad. It does seem like suicide attempt, however you did mention it is not due the the height and age. :/ The lighting from the top right corner to me, insinuates a heaven like feeling which supports death and saddness feeling.

hmmm thats very sad. . . maybe when it comes down to it, no matter what we say we all want to be remembered somehow? and that is the last effort to have people recognize them, and care about them. . . i think if that was the way i would do it i would leave my shoes too. . .like hey. i was here. i did it. . and i wonder how long it will take anyone to notice. . much less care.

I like this picture, though, it's really sad. Especially since I've got a pair of shoes in sz 19 next to me.
Thankfully the owner of those shoes are sleeping safely upstairs :)

Great shot!

Oh, this actually made me feel sick to my stomach when I saw it. It took a moment to really process it, even though I recognized what the shoes meant from my studies of Japanese culture (the shoe thing doesn't happen in America). I think maybe because they're child's sized, it took me so long. For some reason, it was more impacting than I thought it would be.
I would like to think this photo is through the eyes of someone who is looking at the water anxiously, searching, waiting for the body. I don't know, but that's what it feels like to me.

This picture terrifies me. A picture that conveys the stillness of life and death.
x-bloodmoon Featured By Owner Aug 23, 2008
I really like this and it evokes a lot of emotion for me.
I wrote a poem about drowning oneself once... though I'm not sure why you'd care >.<
But yeah, I love this. So much.

"for sale. baby shoes. never worn."

from a bet ernest hemingway made that he could tell a complete story in less than (10?) words. a complete work of fiction in six words.

your photo feels like that too, not just because of the subject but because of the story it tells, maybe a different one to every viewer, and maybe one that leaves them thinking and wondering.

I suppose that removing one's shoes may seem logical. Thinking about water flowing between your toes is more pleasant than thinking about what is actually going to happen - you crashing on the surface of said water!
And perhaps there is a will to purificate self that translates into one not getting back to the simplicity of having naked feet.
I guess that this goes well with the sunset in the picture :/ Sounds like more of an escape to another place than a death.

The poor child. Was she playing, or was the death intentional? (Assuming she jumped off this bridge.)

I really like the open ended nature of this shot. Maybe she jumped or maybe she just left her shoes on the rail and is playing nearby. It could also be interpreted in multiple symbolic ways.

that's the one bringing both life and death (or the way/manner of life and death) together to my mind with many questions and inspirations...

I love the simplicity of this photo. It's not complex, yet it says so much. The little girl was standing there, and now she's not. A child's suicide, maybe? It's so sad, but it's so beautiful at the same time. "Take your shoes off when you go into the water so they won't get wet."

I  it. It's just gorgeous, and this photo says so much.
uiphoto Featured By Owner Apr 17, 2007
I LUV IT.. though it makes me wonder.. the ripples in the water are just creepy... did the baby fall in, was the baby abducted.. It FEELS like that moment when a mother would look around and realize her child was gone..
luxferre88 Featured By Owner Apr 15, 2007
This kinda freaked me out and made me want to cry... I'm not sure if you meant it but it made me think of suicide, and because they're a child's shoes it's like innocence lost or something.
h-arakiri Featured By Owner Apr 10, 2007
-i never understood why they leave their shoes on the railing... and i keep wondering would i, too?-

i love it
its the truth though
very very well portrayed
suzi9mm Featured By Owner Apr 12, 2007   Photographer
yea i guess its natural for a human to take their shoes off before going to the water, and suicide is no exception.
