FEATURE: the story behind the photo.
I've always been intrigued by the process that photographers go through when they take their photos. What goes through their mind when they shoot? Why do they compose a shot a certain way? How did they mean for the shot to be interpreted?
I decided I was going to find out. I contacted several friends and asked them to choose a photo from their gallery, then share the story behind it. The responses I received were more than I could have hoped for: not only were the photos incredible (of course that was to be expected from these talented photographers), but the stories that accompanied them were incredibly insightful. I enjoyed reading each and every one of them, and am extremely grateful to them for their help. I hope that you will enjoy these stories as much as I did :aww:

How Did They Do That?! Photo Episode 4
How Did They Do That?! Episode 4
It takes a lot to create a great photo, and sometimes the process seems like a mystery to the casual observer. In each episode of How Did They Do That?!, I interview a photographer about the creative process behind one of his or her recent popular photos. This time, I talk to suzi9mm about what went into creating Sprained Minds.

:1: Can you tell me some of the technical details about this photo?
It was taken with a Canon 10D and Sigma's suberb 105mm EX macro lens. I seemed to have forgotten the ISO speed at 200, which was completely unnecessary as I used a studio flash with a softbox and that offered plenty of light. Thanks to the flash, I could easily use aperture 11.
:2:  What are you trying to say with this photo?
I never felt like it would contain a message of any kind. It's more like a vi

How Did They Do That?! Episode 3
It takes a lot to create a great photo, and sometimes the process seems like a mystery to the casual observer. In each episode of How Did They Do That?!, I interview a photographer about the creative process behind one of his or her recent popular photos. This time, I talk to gnato about what went into creating j+.

:1: Can you tell me some of the technical details about this photo?
I was using a Nikon D70 with the kit lens at 18mm. Lighting came from a SB600 wireless flash reflected from the back of an old armoire. Exposure time was about 1/250s. I processed the photo with the Photoshop RAW plugin, converted it to black and white, and nothing more.
:2: What are you trying to say with this photo?
It was a part of my i. series, which deals with information. It should make people think the role

In each episode of How Did They Do That?!, I interview a photographer about the creative process behind one of his or her recent popular photos. This time, I talk to jonjacobsen about what went into creating The forgotten arrival.

:1: Can you tell me some of the technical details about this photo?
Well, I took this picture with a Canon 350D. 1/400, F/5.0 at 27mm (I use the 18-55mm lenses) and a 100 ISO speed.
The post editing was done in Photoshop CS: Levels, colors, curves, channel mixer and selective correction.

:2: What are you trying to say with this photo?
The concept of this series was "World as reverse". This picture talks about a very well-known princess who arrived, but no one came to g

Photographing People Vol. 12
Photographing People is a monthly feature, that does exactly what it says on the tin - concentrates on showcasing photography featuring people. The pictures are divided into three different style categories, namely portraiture, fashion, and conceptual. These definitions are treated quite loosely though, and what ends up in which section depends on the mood and look of the piece, regardless of which DA category the work is submitted in. Every month I'll also try to bring you at least one interesting Feature of the month submission, which might be a good tutorial or an exceptionally interesting article, or even just a brilliant photograph, which deserves its own special spotlight.
So, without further ado, here's this month's edition of Photographing People. Enjoy!

GD5: Natural and Artificial (MATURE CONTENT)
Warning: Can contain Mature Content
Every other week, Gallery Directors will select 5 of their favorite prints that meet a particular theme. Our goal is to help artists get a little more exposure, give some inspiration to people looking for ideas, and to have a little fun.
All selections must fit the theme of the week and be available as prints. While Gallery Directors may make selections from within their respected galleries, they are not restricted to them and may deviate.
We will announce future themes by a week or two in advance to give everyone the opportunity to be creative and submit themed deviations to their galleries, however, this is not a contest, there are no prizes, and this is not a replacement for the Daily Deviation. The GD5 Theme Scene is just a gallery of favorites selected by our Gallery Directors that are based on a particular theme.
Check them out!
