Thanks Ashyda. I am amazed that this is still one of the simplest way to make a cog/gear; especially after so many years have gone by.

That's very helpful, even if I don't use Illustrator much for anything, it will help one day when I want to make a SVG for my experiments with NEWT/"html5" stuff.

Excellent.

As simple as it first looks to make a symmetrical object, a technique like this would help

Photoshop as far as I know has everything except the pathfinder and the star tools. :(
Reply
:iconibtryster:
IBTryster Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2011
I was actually able to find the star tool! It was pretty much complete luck: its part of the hexagon tool. The pathfinder is the most difficult part, I have zero idea what the equivalent in photoshop would be. Hopefully I'll find something.
Thank you, though!

There is a way to vertically align and horizontally align in photoshop with 2 layers selected at a time using the Move tool i believe but no way to combine and subtract as far as i know..

:iconibtryster:
IBTryster Featured By Owner Jan 15, 2011
Yeah I was finally able to find the alignment settings but so far no luck on any subtract/combine features. Going to hit up the omnipotent Google today to see what luck I have though!
