I have to say those city lights are one of the best examples I've seen.

Not to be a downer, I mean I am all for making awesome images using photoshop, but things like this are more akin to photo-manipulation as opposed to painting. With painting you start from scratch, no stock images, no star brushes, just default photoshop or SAI brushes and colors.

I always feel that people should put these kinds of images in the correct category.

I use some photographic elements sure, but there's a lot of painting too, values, highlights, texture with custom made brushes (where do custom brushes stop being painting? Only pure round? Only presents? Grunge? What's the line?) I use non photographic non painting tools, like making starfields, like using difference clouds, and then applying further filters to make different textures. Is that equivilent to a pallete knife? Or using a cloth to dab the paint? My art is, at its most photographic 50 percent from photos, 50 percent from "painting" which I use to mean photoshop sans photos.

Beyond that looking at the categories in photo-manipulation, which my art, I feel, is not, has only Sci-fi, which it could be, but space art is closer. Its not 3-D, there's no 3D render like Maya or Cinema 4D. Its not meant to be wallpaper. So then what is it? For the user who wants to see art like my art the place it best fits is where it is. I mean maybe, as you've done mixed media miscellaneous is more accurate, but if I'm a user looking for space art, why not go to space art? So like unless a mod wants to look at my PSD and determine on which side of the line I fall... I don't know... maybe comment on the art.

When I said colors I meant colors that you yourself specify, though sampling them from a picture is common as well.

This is pretty stupid question but, how do you make paintings like this?! They are absolutely amazing.

There are essentially three parts to any space painting. The stars, ([link] + [link], though you should also make your own star brushes) the planets ([link] ), and the nebulas ([link] ). There's a lot of ways to make nebulas, that's a cloud looking one, but there's a whole variety or nebulas and just as many ways to make them.
