China is NOT Japan

Description

It bothers me a little when people get the two cultures confused. I'll be drawing a picture and someone will come up behind me and ask, "Is she Chinese?" or, "Isn't that one of those Chinese cartoons?" No, it's not a "Chinese cartoon", it's manga. Which is Japanese. The two countries aren't even touching! What is it about China that is so much better than Japan?!

It upsets me is that a lot of teens in America (outside of the art community) have no clue that Japan has a different culture from China. I'm not trying to stereotype or offend anyone, but it's what I've observed. All the TV shows, cartoons, etc. refer to China, but they hardly ever refer to Japan. There are kids' movies out that take place in China, people are Chinese, Chinese art, Chinese fighting, Chinese dancing, etc. etc. etc. I'm surprised that kids even know that Japan exists at all!

It's okay if you disagree with me. You may have seen shows/movies that I haven't, or you come from a neighborhood with a lot of culture... I don't travel much, so I can't speak for everybody. But where I live, anything different is wrong. If you can't serve a ball or drink a beer, you're automatically a loser. If you like drawing or reading or playing video games, you're a nerd. No one knows the differences between separate art styles.

I made this stamp mostly just for me, because I'm the only person I know who's peeved by these things. I wouldn't be surprised if I got comments saying "Who cares?" But I can post what I want on my dA, so, yeah. ;A;

why does everyone think asian things = chinese by default? is it because china is the largest asian country, both in area and population?
