Hey guys,

I finally made a SmackJeeves page for Colour Theory, in hopes of reaching a wider audience.
If you have an account and like my comic, I invite you to fave it on SmackJeeves! :)

Speaking of comic hosting sites, do you guys recommend any other ones? I've been out of the loop for so long, lol.

I'm very excited to announce that I will be moving to British Columbia with my fiancé in the Spring! =D

While leaving our friends and family behind and starting out in a new province is going to be quite scary, I am also thrilled to move to such a gorgeous place.

On the downside, I will no longer be able to attend any conventions in the Ontario or Michigan region (I mean... not that I had been going to many cons over the last two years). In preparation for our big move, I will be going through my art inventory and possibly be parting with some merchandise (prints, many leftover comics, and originals). Please let me know if you'd be interested in such things - I will be posting some detailed announcements soon.

My boyfriend and I are going to be travelling in New Zealand and Australia for a month!!! We leave on the first of July, and come back on the 31st. I'm super stoked!

Unfortunately, this means that there will be no comic updates throughout July. However, I will be able to get back into the swing of things as soon as I get home in August (I have that month off as well).

I also plan to bring a sketchbook with me and document my travels/doodle as I go. Hopefully I'm able to keep that up consistently (and probably post stuff on my Tumblr).

Now, on to freaking out and packing...

DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 7, 2015, 1:29 PM

I really want a 15th birthday badge, so here goes:

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Almost 7 years! It is the longest I’ve ever been part of something. :)

What does your username mean?
In high school, I made a comic starring myself and most of my friends as superheroes. I was Super Chichi. I dropped a syllable and made it my username.

Describe yourself in three words.
Creative, cynical, introverted

Are you left or right handed?
I’m a righty. My left hand is so poorly coordinated that it cannot even manage painting nails.

What was your first deviation?
My Head Sounds Like That by Super-Chi

What is your favourite type of art to create?
Surreal traditional stuff, often creepy and/or emotional, starring women and featuring hands, eyes, and/or lots of hair.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Digital painting. I CAN’T EVEN. Don’t get me started.

What was your first favourite?
Siamese Orphan Sculpture by torvenius

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Surreal, otherworldly stuff, often creepy and/or emotional, starring women; sometimes I like to spice it up with cutesy animals and fan art.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Sophie Campbell (mooncalfe). I love her character designs and the way she draws women.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I have met Ash of ashnjohncomics through DA nearly 5 years ago; she has been commissioning a cute anthro comic documenting how her and her hubby came to meet and start dating. Along the way, I got to illustrate her wedding day and first born baby! It is really cool getting to know somebody through comic-making, and we've been talking about finally meeting in person sometime. :)

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
o all the DA folks who have commented on my works, kept up with my comic updates, commissioned me, and said hi to me at conventions - you have encouraged me to keep doing something I am hugely passionate about! Many thanks! :D

What are your preferred tools to create art?
Pencil, ink, and Prismacolor markers.

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Any secluded room with a table, comfy chair, computer, music, and cat(s).

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Probably when I received my first Daily Deviation (on Worme 01)! It was certainly a great feeling (and persuaded me to see the story to its end).

In need of Patreon tips and ideas - help, please?

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 20, 2015, 11:29 AM

Hey guys,

I’m thinking of setting up a Patreon for my comic. I am far from being able to use my art as a full-time source of income, but I figure it wouldn’t hurt trying! :)

However, I have very little experience/knowledge of how to create a successful Patreon campaign. I am doing research as we speak, but I would just like to know if you guys had any suggestions (based on past experience, such as projects you’re backing or featuring on Patreon).

What are some appealing goals/rewards one could offer? Especially webcomic creators?

Any projects you find are particularly well put-together? Feel free to link them!

Hypothetically speaking, what would be something you’d like to see in terms of rewards/incentives from me?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! :thanks:

Some Great News!!! (Update)

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 25, 2015, 7:18 PM

Good news everybody,

I finally got a call yesterday about my computer! The Geek Squad people had sent it over to their headquarters in another town, and they eventually had to get an Apple representative to look at it. Turns out the video cord was defective; Apple extended my warranty on that part only and replaced the video cord free of charge!

I now have my iMac back, yay!

I still need to find my tablet CD and reinstall the software, however (as my computer has been wiped clean of files and previously installed programs). Everything should be back to normal in a few days though - no thanks to Geek Squad, lol. Seriously though, they suck. DON'T GO TO THEM. EVERRR.

Chi out!

* * *

Finally, the computer repairs place backed up all my data on my external hard drive. For those of you who ever run into computer problems, I DO NOT recommend Geek Squad. They're unreliable, unorganized procrastinators. Five work days to back up a minimal amount of data? COME ON! </end rant>

On the bright side, at least I can now use my laptop to work on my comic again. The updates will still be slow, as it is harder for me to draw on my laptop. The screen is much smaller, and the Photoshop version I have installed is not as spiffy as the one on my desktop. Oh well!

As for my desktop, it appears that the issue is the motherboard, which I must now replace. This may run me 700$ or more. It will hurt, but it should be manageable. The repair folks are gonna get back to me as soon as they do an exact quote of the repair cost (after that, I assume it'll be another three years three weeks before I get my computer back.

* * *

Unfortunately, my I-Mac computer crapped out last night. I was working on my latest comic page and the screen suddenly turned white (with thin blue stripes). I had to turn it off, and after finally managing to get it to turn back on, it won't get past a dreaded white screen. Over the last two days, I've tried a bunch of reboot methods, and nothing works. I have decided to take it to get it repaired as soon as I get the chance. Hopefully it won't take too long and it won't be too costly.

My other BIG concern is the possibility that I may lose my files (this includes many comic drafts and even files I use for my job as a research assistant, which I have foolishly never backed up). I am crying inside. Ohwell... Guess we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

Until I get the computer fixed, there will be no comic updates. In the meantime, I will probably work on some traditional stuff (sadly, I don't feel too inspired or motivated, as this event really killed my artistic drive).

Chi out!

Chapter 4 for sale and some good news!

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 16, 2015, 1:31 PM

Unfortunately, my Kickstarter campaign was a bust. However, I have some awesome news!

A few months ago, I attended Altekrea, a small convention/art show in Kitchener (Canada). The convention was hosting a portfolio pitch competition, where the winner would receive a 2000$ grant towards an art project of their choice. I presented my comic in front of a panel of 5 judges (with the intention of getting Chapter 4 to print and also printing multiple copies of subsequent chapters), and I'm very thrilled to announce that I recently found out that I am the winner! :D In a month or so, I will start a mentorship program for my project and begin receiving my funds.

:star: :star: :star:

As for Chapter 4 books, I ended up printing a couple on my own. If you are interested in purchasing a copy from me, I invite you to visit my online store.

Also, if you liked the package deals that I offered as pledge incentives on my Kickstarter, please message me (we could work something out price-wise). :)

My 5th Daily Deviation!

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 29, 2014, 6:27 PM

I woke bright and early for work today and was pleasantly surprised upon checking my DA account. :D
I received my 5th DD for Lost in the Trees, a drawing which means a lot to me on a personal level. It really made my day!
I have recently been facing some gloomy thoughts on the artistic front, but this is a huge encouragement for me to keep striving to create and improve my work.

Thank you all for your support, watches, and faves!

I officially graduated French Teacher's College today! :D It's been a hard, busy year - but it's finally nice to see the payoff. Come September, I'll be working as a short-term supply teacher. Until then, I'll be enjoying my summer!

I hope to produce more artwork, especially since I'd like some new material for this year's Fan-Expo convention. My goal is to finish 8 comic pages during the summer - but don't hold me to my word.

On another note, I will be gradually moving in with my boyfriend over the coming months, which is pretty exciting, but also a radical change! :wow:

Hey guys,

I've always been a big fan of stickers, and I am considering designing some for future conventions. I will probably order them from, since their sticker quality is really nice.

I was mainly thinking of representing the cast of Ball and Chain, but I was also hoping to get your guys' opinion on this.

If I design some stickers, what kind of stuff would you like to see on them? I'm open to suggestions! :)
Would you be interested in purchasing stickers or sticker sheets from me? They wouldn't be expensive, lol.

(Also, please don't expect stickers anytime soon, as I am very, VERY slow in the art department right now.)

My comic has celebrated its 3rd anniversary on January 31st! This is super exciting, especially since I feel my art has improved during the course of this project.
I've just planned out some key parts in upcoming chapters, so I'm keen to continue the comic. Unfortunately, production is rather slow...
I would like to thank you guys for reading, commenting, faving, and purchasing my comic! I don't think I would've been able to keep it up for this long without the online support.

Also, I totally did a vanity Google search and came across this:
:star:… :star:
My comic has a Tv Tropes article!!! Whoever took the time to write that up deserves a virtual hug.

Hey guys!

The Ball and Chain Chapter 3 books have finally arrived! :D
They are printed through Ka-Blam and they look really nice.
The comics contain 32 pages (29 comic pages + 3 pages of bonus sketches and concept material). The book is also in Zine format (8.5 x 11").

:star: If you are interested in supporting my work and purchasing a copy, here is a link to my Storenvy online store: :star:
They are only 10$ apiece, I will sign each copy. :)
I will also ship internationally (note me for any details or extra questions).

Thanks a bunch for your patience and ongoing support - I hope to get Chapter 4 going soon! I've started the lineart for the first page and I hope to find time to finish it soon (gotta work around around the many Christmas events I'm attending this year, lol).

Happy Holidays! :santa:

My Wacom Bamboo Pen drawing tablet (that I bought roughly 10 months ago) suddenly stopped working 2 days ago. I tried updating the tablet driver, uninstalling the software and re-installing it, but nothing seems to work. I plugged the tablet into multiple USB ports, but it doesn't even light up anymore. This has never happened to me before, as my 2 previous drawing tablets (which are not compatible w/ the computer I now use) never died on me, and I used them for years at a time. Could the pen be an issue, or the tablet itself? I'm not really good at these things, lol. I was wondering if you guys had experiences with drawing tablets just pooping out on you prematurely?

I'm quite upset, as I was on a comic kick (and I wanted to finish Chapter 3 before September)... Now I feel boredom and uselessness creeping up on me, lol. I fear I may have to buy another one! :(

I just received an e-mail confirmation last night - I will be starting my 1 year French Teacher's College program this September! =D
I'm super happy, though a little nervous at the same time. My schedule will be very busy, as I have roughly 13 courses crammed into a one year span. I fear I'll have little time for art, but I'll have 2 months off this summer to relax and draw.

And thanks so much to all those who voted for me in the Art Contest I entered - I ended up getting 3rd place. :)

Hey guys,

I opted to create a Storenvy account, since they do not charge for the item listings (or take part of your sales profit).
I have put up a couple of prints and originals up for sale; feel free to check it out:
:star: :star:
I have yet to customize the look of the store, but I look forward to it. :)

If there are any of my works that you would like to see in print format, please let me know!
I might also feature some smaller-sized prints as well (and my comic... as soon as I stock up on Chapter 1 copies).

I am considering making an Etsy account (just because I don't exactly have a legitimate store set up online). I was hoping to ask you guys some questions about Etsy, such as:

Would an Etsy account be profitable for art prints and comics?
Would you guys be interested in slightly larger sizes of my prints (such as 8 x 10, 8 x 12, and 11 x 14)?
Those of you who have Etsy accounts, do you make frequent sales, and are you happy with the website?

Thanks a bunch! Any kind of tips and advice is much appreciated. :thanks:

I didn't have a specific judgement scale, though I factored in execution and cosplay explanations. It was pretty close, and I also asked for the input of my boyfriend and my parents (who were familiar w/ my characters, but objective when it came to the cosplays and art in general).

Winners, please note me with your desired commission requests (and keep in mind my restrictions, listed here:…). I will mail you the prize commissions (and books), free of charge. There may be a little delay w/ the commissions, as work and other events often get in the way of my productivity (and I'm still waiting for my Chapter 1 order to come in). :)

I encourage everyone to check out the other lovely entries here:…
Thank you all who participated -I really enjoyed your entries! =D I hope you had fun working on them.

As of January 31st, I've officially been working on this comic for 2 years! I am extremely happy that I completed 2 chapters (especially since I have a tendency to abandon projects once I get bored of them). There have been obstacles along the way (such as schoolwork, and fulltime employment), yet I've managed to balance things out and find time for comic work. Luckily, Ball and Chain is a story I'm really passionate about, and I hope to see it to its end (or at least finish a couple of other chapters). Your feedback and comments are honestly what keeps it going, so I want to thank you all for encouraging me to continue the story. :)

I am going to try to increase the frequency of comic updates, so that I can hopefully produce 2 chapters a year (though that's pretty darn ambitious).
