Fairytale by Super-Chi Fairytale by Super-Chi

Over a few weeks, this drawing was completed in ink, pencil, Prismacolor/Copic marker and white gel pen. It's based on a snippet of a Romanian fairytale (titled "The Story of the Pig"), in which a girl severs her pinky to complete a stairway of bones (she's on a long journey to save her prince); it was one of my favourite stories growing up (the rest of it is not nearly as gory). I'll be honest, this photo doesn't really do the drawing justice.

I knew a similar story growing up, called the Seven Ravens. The details are different though.
After I got past the instinctive wince, I gotta say that this drawing is gorgeous. I love the detail on her clothes, the design element of the bones, and her determined expression.
Just... owwww....

Thanks so much - I'm very happy you had that reaction (I was really trying to go for something gross yet full of strength/purpose). :)
It's also interesting to hear that you know of a similar story! I might look that up someday.

Ma bucur; multumesc mult! Si eu imi amintesc ca am trecut printr-o faza cand o rugam pe mama mea sa imi citeasca povestea aproape zilnic (ori o ascultam pe casete). :D

Amazing detail, especially on the scarf pattern and the bounced light on the bones!

The remainder of the story is definitely not as gory, but it is plenty weird (including a prince who is -literally- a magical talking pig)!

Wow this really cool! I'm amazed how she can keep straight faced with that missing finger thing and all, I'll be passed out on the ground!

i get the whole "photo doesn't give the artwork justice" thing, escpecially when the real thing looks absolutely kickass. Happens just about everytime XD.

Thank you! I wanted her expression to seem unsettling, given the circumstances! :)

Sigh, I'm glad you can relate to the photo vs. real thing dilemma.
