Pwyll

Pwyll, Prince of Dyfed, was out hunting a stag with his hounds when he happened upon a roe buck set upon by a stranger's red-eared dogs. He sent his hounds to chase the others away, and stole the quarry. He was then approached by a stately figure in gray, who declared himself to be Arawn, king of the Otherworld. Pwyll had done ill by stealing the buck from him, and thus owed him a favor. Pwyll, Arawn said, was to switch places with him for a year. Under Arawn's guise, he was to defeat the other king's longstanding foe within the year, as Arawn could not. Through magic, Arawn made it so he appeared as Pwyll and Pwyll seemed to be the god-king, and they ruled each other's kingdoms for a year. When the year was over, they met once more, and Pwyll let it be known that he had defeated Arawn's foe, and had lain chastely with his wife for the duration of their exchange. They remained friends ever after.
