Sparkle Emoji OPTION 1. Red-line (doesn't have to be colored)
I will draw on a new layer on top of your artwork and show you how you could improve the pose, proportion, and/or perspective. I can do this for digital art and photos of traditional art.

JAMPcon 2017 Recap!

Wed Apr 26, 2017, 2:31 PM by suishouyuki:iconsuishouyuki:

:new: Added links to photos! See the "Cosplays and Photos" section.
--
Hi everyone! :heart: I tried to write a quick recap of the amazing weekend. Thanks so much for a wonderful time ;v;

God arranged the whole weekend so perfectly, I am honestly blown away. I can’t even describe how amazed I am. We met such wonderful people and everyone was so friendly. We received many compliments on our display, and I’m grateful for the compliments on my artwork and of course the sales as well. ;v; Honestly, this was one of my best conventions sales-wise so far, due in part, no doubt, to my Yu-gi-oh! niche. I am so blessed and grateful beyond words!!

--
We arrived at the hotel with about two hours to set up, so at first we were going to get our table done and then change into our cosplay. Here’s what happened instead.
TL;DR: We were going to set up in the room, but it was rather warm and stuffy and would be shared by a panel or something later on, so we set up in the hallway/foyer instead.

We got our badges and went to the room where the artists were supposed to be. Several artists were already set up, so we picked a table near the door and started to set up. Not long after that, the coordinator came in and explained that he had originally had the artists in the hallway to give us more traffic, but artists were concerned about safety (a logical issue), so even though the room would be used for other things, they had requested to use the room. That meant that we would have to move our table when it was time for the room to be used by a panel later on.

I immediately prayed about what to do, and felt that it would be better in the hallway because we always take our stock with us at the end of the day and the flow of traffic in that particular spot was constant. (Not to mention the fact that the air flow and big windows were nice too.) So we relocated, choosing the table next to Greggo’s Game Shows and nearby Sakura Sisters.
BUT somehow, we had managed to completely mis-measure our table when we had done the mock-up at home, so while we had thought we were preparing for a 6’ table…we actually prepared for 8’! The little 6’ table meant we had to rework the display, which is always stressful >_< We ended up with a tiny 28” hole for one of our faces to be peeking out of at a time! But it ended up working out so well, because some kind people stopped and bought several things as we were setting up. ;v;

We enjoyed being in the hallway because there was a lot of interesting conversations we got to either listen to or take part in, by table neighbors and attendees alike. Since people were always passing by, it was rarely dull, even during panels.

Panels and Autographs

I already had Eric Stuart's autograph from MTAC 2014, so I was on a mission to get Dan Green's. I debated on what to get signed since all the stuff I would want signed was either on my computer (not printed) or left at home. ;A; in the end I had him sign one of my Yugi + Atem bookmarks.

His first reaction when I handed it to him was “Ooh~" XD I think it’s because it's sparkly and shiny. (I'm so happy everyone likes my bookmarks! Even Eric stopped by on the last day and commented on them.)

I only went to a few panels because I didn’t want to be away from my table too long (and as the days progressed, I had more commissions to do). But both voice acting panels I went to were great; one on Friday evening and one on Saturday. I seriously did debate on going to Dan’s voice acting panel just because he warned us at a previous panel that if we were going, we needed to bring something to take notes on because it would be more of an actual lecture. I love classroom things and learning and taking notes!! But I decided not to go because I don’t…want to be a voice actor… ;v; (I’m a bona fide artist, guys…let me draw and I’m happy XD)

Everyone loved our "cute little window"

Being in the hallway, all weekend we saw Dan and Eric pass by us, usually on their phones and staring straight ahead. At one point though, Dan suddenly seemed to notice our table and kind of kept looking at it as he walked away. XD A little later on Saturday, both of them were passing by and my mom called out, “Hi guys!” and they were looking around trying to figure out where in the world the voice was coming from before they saw us and said hi back. Eric was like “I almost didn’t see you. There’s all these prints and then this cute little window."

Later that day, a bit before we were going to start packing up for the day, Eric stopped by, bent down and asked if we were going to come out from behind our little window and go to see him and his band perform. We don't usually go to concerts because my ears are so sensitive, but when you get asked by the band personally, you have to go!!! So we did and I am so glad! It was a wonderful unplugged performance and we both enjoyed it. We bought three of their CDs at the end and got to chat with them briefly since we were the last ones.

The last day, Dan popped his head in and told us "You two are adorable.”
Bless him.
THAT MADE MY WHOLE WEEK.

I really hope that he and Eric both had a good time even though it was a small convention. People came from Canada and the UK (and probably elsewhere!), not to mention in-state and out-of-state, just to see them and the other guests, so I hope all the guests had a good experience. And I hope we were able to shine a little light and spread some joy even in the rain ^^

The rest of the day was incredibly slow, and I think that was largely because of the non-stop rain. :/ But some more lovely people came by and bought things, even as we were taking the display down! ;v; Thank you so much!

Oh, and we also talked briefly with a journalist from the Times Free Press, who wanted to know what was going on. We told him a bit about what had happened during the weekend and the last of the panels happening at that moment (one being a game show). He then got my name and business card and took a few photos. I think they ended up only publishing photos from another convention centered around tattoos that he had mentioned, though. But that’s fine. Sundays are always wrap-up days for anime cons, and he came almost literally at the end of it, so there wasn’t much left to report on.

Cosplays and Photos

On Day 1, we just wore our normal clothes. We were going to cosplay, but decided not to bother in the end. On Day 2, we both wore maid outfits! My grandmother handmade the aprons, and the dresses are JSKs from Bodyline, which we bought here on eBay. On Day 3, we were going to wear our Lolita outfits (both mostly from Anna House Fashion), but because we evidently lost the ties to my mom’s dress (which I was going to wear), I changed into my maid outfit from the day before.

As for cosplay we saw, we took a few photos that you can see here! There were some epic Yu-gi-oh! DM cosplays (including MANY Kaibas XD) and some other really cool and/or funny ones that I got pictures of.

Lovely people

Greg of Greggo’s Game Shows was a wonderful table neighbor. He was very friendly and we learned a lot from him. He is so good at what he does. Definitely check out his Youtube channel to see his game shows! I was seriously impressed.

I also saw :iconriverspirit22: again and met many other people such as Megan (don't know her account), purple-lynx (Tumblr), lilinmira_cosplay (Instagram), and more!

If you chatted with me this weekend, please leave a comment below so I can put a face to the username!
And if you want to keep up with my convention happenings, make sure to follow me on Instagram and/or Tumblr! (I post to both, and sometimes Twitter.)

My next convention will be Kentokyocon in August!

Event trivia!

  • Greg had a Pikachu that this one girl kept trying to steal XD It was hilarious watching her many attempts. She finally quit partway through the con, but she was pretty determined at first!
  • The autograph session I went to had a queue with no beginning. It was a congregation; each side thought theirs was the end of the line XD At least we were all trying to be courteous, I guess!
  • The main/featured panels were in an amphitheater—which was also basically a conference room, with tiers of long tables and stuff. It was really cool and the chairs were super comfortable XD The first voice acting Q&A panel started off with, “So how many of you you signed up for this course?” “It’s mandatory."
  • Got a little annoyed with the shipping references in panels. ^^; Guys… You’re allowed to love your friends. It doesn’t have to be more than that. (This is coming from someone who used to ship that stuff and doesn’t anymore.)
  • PRESIDENT YUGI IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING EVER.
  • An aide dog named Thor was there all weekend, usually in his own cosplay! (He was a Blue Eyes White Dragon one day even!) He was so sweet and cute! When Eric and his band were signing CDs, Thor said hi to him and then (since I was kneeling on the other side of the briefcase waiting for my mom to come back with the money) said hi to me and plopped down on top of the stuff on the floor XD
  • I really can’t math. Please equip with calculator.

Overwhelm

Fri Nov 18, 2016, 6:09 PM by suishouyuki:iconsuishouyuki:

Hi everyone! :iconsnugplz: The past week has been hard for me. After falling behind on some things, a somewhat disappointing weekend at Anime Blast Chattanooga sales-wise (the people were friendly and the venue was beautiful though!) and a larger-than-expected printing bill, I felt especially down and a little overwhelmed.

I try really hard to just keep going in times like this, but this time I was sort of artblocked too, which made it imperative that I do something about it. So most of this week I've done a lot of thinking. I'm trying to answer questions like "What's the point of this?", "What am I even wanting to do?", and "Is this helping me reach my goals or not?" It's important to stop and consider, because I can't get where I want to go if I don't even know what I'm doing.

My tendency is to always put myself last. I also tend to want to work on one thing at a time until completion, while completely ignoring everything else. Neither of those things, ultimately, are beneficial or productive.

Therefore, I have decided to do the following:
  • Commissions - Starting in December, after I've finished my current batch of commissions,  I will fill from a waitlist and do ONE each month. This will prevent me from falling behind, because I hate that my kind commissioners have to wait so long due to all the other commitments I have ;_; I hope that's okay with you guys...

  • Livestreams - I have to test it first, but I have a new setup that will allow me to do streams with my mic off, so I'll be able to stream more often and not bother my family or make everyone have to listen to my squeaky stool LOL

  • Missing Haruka/Patreon - You have no idea how excited I am to finally be putting concentrated effort on my own original manga! :la: I love my fan OCs, and so really digging in and building out a story that's entirely my own, using characters that aren't framed within an existing fandom, is so refreshing and exciting!! As I have stuff to show, I'm putting it up on Patreon! So far I have some thumbnails up, and I'm working on a character design sheet for the main character that I hope to post soon ^^

  • Duel Cafe - I have a billion ideas for Duel Cafe and I'm sad that more people haven't gotten the book yet! (I'm super grateful to everyone who has! It means more to me than you know. QwQ ) I know money is a big part of that, so my shop will have FREE shipping in the U.S. all through the month of December for orders over $20. *My shop will be closed for maintenance Nov. 24th - 30th.

I'm still a little unsure of what I'm doing, but I know that I have to stop setting aside the things I'm passionate about. Otherwise I'll be stifling my creativity and that ruins everything xAx

On a lighter note, Pokemon Sun and Moon is out today!!! :la: So is my new video!

Thanks for reading!

13 Things + Fictional Crush

Sun Oct 9, 2016, 4:35 PM by suishouyuki:iconsuishouyuki:

Okay, it takes me forever to do tags and I'm shy about tagging people so I will break the rules by asking readers to comment with their replies to my questions! Sorry XD
Tagged by :icontorikii:
1. Post ALL the rules!
2. Each person has to share 13 things about themselves!
3. Choose 13 peeps and questions
4.Can't say you don't do tags
5. Tag-backs are allowed!
6. You must do an journal entry! No questions! Unless it's about the entry!
7. Be creative! Do not say you're tagged in the title! You can in the description!

13 Things About Me:
1. My "money language" is Saver-Spender.
I'm more likely to wait a long time for something to go on sale than to make an impulse purchase.
2. I own seven artbooks made by artists here on dA~ I like getting preorder packages if I can since I like all the extra goodies that come with them *v*
3. I am 163 cm tall (5'4.5").
4. I'm a Christian.
5. I don't like watermelon.
A lot of people think that's weird. I don't know why I don't like it; I just don't XD
6. I love being organized and being in organized spaces. It's so much easier to focus when the space I'm in is tidy and feels fresh. My mind feels so much clearer and it's easier to think when I'm not distracted by clutter.
7. I don't like things near my ears. I can't handle earplugs. I literally panic if someone covers my ears completely or sticks their fingers in my ears (my mom did that once to try to use a technique with essential oils on me and I instantly, involuntarily burst into tears and started screaming ;v; ). I can't stand water in my ears and can't put my head underwater. I don't like earbud-type headphones and, for that matter, don't even care for headphones all that much. I'm afraid of bugs flying into my ears (it's happened before *shudders*)....... So yeah, just stay away from my ears, thank you XD
8. I hate loud noises and loud music. I avoid concerts and live performances. DVDs work better for me because I can adjust the volume as I need, and I can even pause it XD You can't pause a live performance!
9. At its longest point, my hair reaches my tailbone.
10. My favorite color is purple, but most of my clothes are black, white, pink, gray, or blue.
11. I'm an INFJ-T personality type!
12. I love working on big projects.
Especially if there are people cheering me on, or better yet, working along with me. I like drawing with others (such as on livestreams or in real-life drawing "meet ups"), writing with others (NaNoWriMo), planning with others...etc. Basically, I have tons of big ideas and, once I commit to finishing something, work very hard to bring it to fruition...and I love it when others do the same with me. ^^
13. Um...running out of stuff here... Uh, I'm super picky when it comes to watching TV/movies/etc. I don't like anything scary, too much romance makes me leave the room... I tend to prefer family/kids stuff and action, adventure, fantasy...stuff like that.

Torikii's 13 Questions:
1. Who's your idol here on DA? ;D

I don't idolize anyone, but I have a lot of artists that inspire me! There are really way too many to list! You can see a sampling of them on my profile under "Inspiration".

2. What's your number 1 Anime series?
Yu-gi-oh!/Yuugiou Duel Monsters... Second would be Haikyuu!!

3. Do you like drawing cake? (If yes, which is your fav to draw?)
Yes! I haven't drawn enough yet to know which is my favorite to draw though XD

4. Favorite pet or animal?
Cats  I also like horses and butterflies~

5. Know who is "Gudetama"?
Yes~

6. Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Cat person.

7. Which country do you wanna visit the most?
Japan, of course XD I want to visit lots of countries though *v* The only country I've been to besides my own (US) is China, where I also went to Macau.

8. What do you think of me? (plz be honest ;w;)
You remind me of a cupcake! A chocolate cupcake with strawberry frosting~

9. Collab, Art Trade, Request, Commission, which one do you like to do most?
Actually, I really enjoy art trades and collabs~ One of my favorite things is working together with others on a project ^^ I'd do them all the time but I have to make money somehow ;v;
Another thing that I love doing that's not listed is gift art! I love drawing gifts for people    It makes me so happy!

10. If you get recruited by a manga or anime company, how would you react?
If I was approached, I would probably cry out of joy and shock XD
But it would come down to the job itself, the terms, working conditions and facility, amount of time I would be expected to devote to it both on and off the clock, respect to my morals, and whether or not I would have to move/commute. So to actually be recruited, meaning my accepting the offer, I would end up feeling happy yet terrified XD It would be a surreal experience.

11. What types of manga do you like to read most?
Good question! I'm actually quite picky when it comes to reading or watching anything, not just Japanese media. It comes down to each series itself. But if I'm just browsing manga, I tend to pick up shoujo items, or something with a fantasy/adventure/action theme. I like action and quests~ Romance is okay but only if it's in a rational context and not too heavy. XD

12. What does your fantasy like?
Not sure what you mean ;v;

13. Do you want to be tag by me in the future? (i wanna know so that i can avoid tagging again)
I don't mind~

-----
My Questions! Please answer them in the comments! :D
1. What is your favorite part about Autumn/Fall?
2. What is the most embarrassing thing you've dressed up as (for Halloween, a party, etc.)?
3. What scent do you most associate with summer?
4. Which of the Free! boys matches your swimming style best (ex. freestyle, backstroke, etc.)? (High five if you just doggy-paddle like I do LOL Hinata and Noya High Five Icon )
5. How do you like your popcorn?
6. Name your favorite vegetable, and tell me why you like it so much. Tomatoes are not allowed (they're a fruit XD).
7. What is your comfort food?
8. In artwork, do you prefer thick, thin, or an in-between line weight (that is, the lineart)? Why?
9. If you could be personally tutored by an artist on dA for one month, who would you choose and why?
10. If you're a manga fan, which manga artist has improved the most over the course of a series you've been reading?
11. If you had an opportunity to get your manga/game/story made into an anime, which anime studio would you want to produce your series? Why?
12. What is the most memorable quote you have come across recently?
13. Which Duel Cafe Flavor do you think is coming next, AND which character do you think it will be?

Top 10 Guys/Fictional crush

....... Kirino Kousaka (Tsundere) [V1] Hn.
Er... Hm... I was about to start middle school when I was introduced to YGO! so I believe my age had a huge part in why I was so enthralled with this guy XD Around that time, I also had a very dysfunctional family; my relationship with my (at the time) stepdad was not good and I was, I guess, subconsciously looking for someone who could save me from all of that; someone who possessed an inner strength that I didn't have. There's more, but it's difficult to put into words without it sounding cheesy.... I mean, it's so deep... But... Cheesy... ;v;
Presently, as I've mentioned elsewhere lol I've turned oddly tsundere on the matter?? I don't even know why??

2. Sekkou (my OC)
He's patient, understanding, and kind...and could also kill you if you are a threat to his loved ones. Plus he can cook.

3. Ikuto (Shugo Chara!)
He's a mysterious, musical cat-boy. No further explanation needed.

4. formerly - Shirogane Ryou (Tokyo Mew Mew)
I feel like I liked him because Ichigo didn't XD ...But more than that, he's so amusing (funny), and complex (serious) at the same time.

5. formerly - Sasuke (Naruto)
Right after YGO! DM ended in the US, I picked up watching Naruto. It was pretty much inevitable that I would like Sasuke. Who didn't, at first? He has the same appeal as some of the other characters on this list.

6. Haikyuu!!
Pretty much all the guys are great, so yeah XD I don't dislike a single one. The character building in this series is beautiful.

7. formerly - Gaara (Naruto)
Hm. Not sure how I can explain this one. I was going through a particularly rough time at that point and I guess I resonated with his story. I tend to go for the characters strong enough to take out enemies, but who also require some sort of emotional healing. I also used to like collecting sand from different beaches and lakes, so there was that. XD Once his story sort of resolved itself thanks to Naruto and friends, I felt better about it (and oddly, that's the moment I came out of depression, which was really...interesting).

8. Kaiba Seto (Yu-gi-oh! DM)
Because he's amazing and infuriating and brilliant. ;v; And tall. Whyyyyy (One of my friends in high school was that tall. I felt like a peanut next to him T v T)

9. Yuusei (Yu-gi-oh! 5D's)
Because he's just...really cool. XD I need to watch 5D's more before I could adequately answer this.

That's all I can think of at the moment... And I'm doubling up the fandoms; I know technically it should be just one guy per fandom, but I have such a small list ;v;

Thank you, AWA!

Wed Oct 5, 2016, 2:49 PM by suishouyuki:iconsuishouyuki:

Hi everyone! This year's AWA was quite different from last year for me, but in a lot of ways it was even better than before! Thank you so so much to everyone who stopped by my table; your support means so much to me!!

I was blessed to be able to table next to DreamerWhit, who I met at AWA last year, up towards the front of the room! It was lovely getting to see her again.

Some highlights of the week(end):

  • Getting to see family again! I love being able to use conventions as a way to see family, even if we're worn out by the end of each day. It's worth it getting to spend time with those you love.
  • Seeing familiar faces! I had several people stop by and say they recognized me from last year or that they bought something from me last year. Some bought from me or commissioned me again this year too! Thank you so much! ;v;
  • Yu-gi-oh! hype!! It never ceases to bring me joy watching fellow fans' faces light up upon recognizing the characters. Several mentioned how much it was a part of their childhood. (I can totally relate!) One super adorable lady even bought one of every YGO! DM item I had XD That made my day.

My bestselling print was Corporate Takeover (again)!
Corporate Takeover by suishouyuki

I also sold a lot of Fate,  Free!, .DARK., my small Mystery Bags, and Duel Cafe.
Fate by suishouyuki [2015] Free! by suishouyuki .Dark. by suishouyuki Duel Cafe Art Book - ALMOST GONE! by suishouyuki New Stock 2016 - AWA Table #813 by suishouyuki

I was happy that people seemed to have more interest in my original art, as well as in artwork that was there last year but quite overlooked. Even though 95% of sales ended up being fanart, I appreciated the interest. For the first time, my stickers actually sold pretty well!

(LOW STOCK) Cute Food and Kokeshi Stickers by suishouyuki

I even sold my favorite art card/ACEO!!! ;A; It's the first one I've ever sold at a convention. (The one featuring Urami.)

Art Cards (ACEO) Set 1-10 by suishouyuki

This year I really tried to make an effort to interact with people more! (I'm such an introvert, half the time I don't know how to do that well orz) I think I did pretty well, though the downside was that I had maxed out my capacity for human interaction by the end of each day. ;v; So I was too exhausted to walk around the rest of the Artist Alley or Dealer's Room ;A; I'm seriously bummed about that... But I'm happy that some other artists came by and said hi! I truly appreciate it!

Everyone was so nice ;v;

All in all, God was wonderful the whole time, even in the low points when I was unsure if I would sell much...because it gave me experience and helped me think of new ways to present things, among lots of other stuff. I had some stressful times, but overall I had a lot of fun and I definitely hope to go back next year!

Changing my username?

Fri Sep 16, 2016, 6:38 AM by suishouyuki:iconsuishouyuki:

Hey guys! Another typical update journal real fast: The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy with me preparing for AWA and a family vacation (super excited to play Pokemon GO on the beach!!!!!!), shipping orders, and trying not to seem like I've disappeared from the internet in the meantime ^^;

Rapid-fire updates, go!
:bulletpurple: I'm closing commissions temporarily! When I reopen them it will likely be for simpler options on a separate journal, BECAUSE.....

:bulletpurple: ...I'm working on my original manga from October with the goal of releasing a preview in February 2017. Check out my Patreon if you want to get in on the behind the scenes and help me really build it out! (Public updates will be on Patreon and Twitter) ...

:bulletpurple: ...BUT I shall certainly be drawing le fanarts (mostly YGO! DM as usual) so do not fret XD

Also, Lord-willing, I will be uploading every Monday as I have been lately!

:bulletyellow: I recently posted a poll concerning changing my username! I originally chose my username to match my email at the time, as well as my Youtube channel. Well... I've made a few other accounts since then and they are all some form of "suishouyuki" or "yukisuishou", so for brand purposes I think it would be a good idea to change my username to match. But I've been "fireaangel" for quite some time now and don't want to confuse anyone who knows me well under this username. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Hey guys! I think my journals are too often nothing more than announcements or updates, so I want to change that by getting some dialogue going instead! (Who wants to read nothing but announcements anyway?)

This is something I was pondering to myself yesterday, so leave a comment below and let me know:

Which piece in my gallery do you like the most?  For me, my favorites tend to be my more recent work, but then there are older pieces that I like, so it's hard to choose. XD

What type of art would you like to see me do more of? Of course I'm going to keep drawing what I love, but I also want to know what you guys want to see since you’re the ones who chose to hit that watch button and I appreciate you so much!:heart::heart: Yui and Azusa Snuggle Icon

Also, share your favorite artwork from your own gallery, or a friend's! Let's spread the love~ Neko Emoji-41 - (Kawaii Waving) [V3] .:Pink pastel heart:

If you are waiting til the last minute to decide if you want to order or not....it's very nerve-wracking for me! XD;;

Upcoming Conventions

I will be attending the following conventions this year (more may be added):

Anime Weekend Atlanta

:bulletblue: September 29 - October 2, 2016 :bulletblue: Atlanta, GA :bulletblue: Website - Facebook

About my current stock: My current lineup of prints (as visible here) WILL NOT BE REPRINTED, with the exception of my most-popular designs. This means that when I sell out, they will be sold out once and for all. For example, a few that won't be re-stocked are my prints of Free!, Love Live!, Batman: Arkham Knight, and F/SN: Unlimited Bladeworks.

Next Project!

I only have a couple of goals for this year, because I've learned from past errors that having too many big goals in one year is not a good idea for me Ritsu and Mio (Karate Chop) [V2]

Perhaps the largest of these, aside from my artbook, which won't really be wrapped up until all the preorders have shipped, is another original project called "Cold Hands". Some of you may remember my AoH character, Enko? Cold Hands is her original story, and I'm attempting to write it as a light novel, with the goal of self-publishing it next summer. :D I used it for NaNoWriMo 2013, and plan to use it again for NaNo this November. In the meantime I'm reworking the plot and solidifying the world the story takes place in.

Besides that, in the coming months I plan to work on my YGO! fanfic, new prints, commissions, and more Duel Cafe fun (I really enjoy it XD)!

Livestreams

I'd like to get back into livestreaming every week! Yesterday's stream was quite fun even though I didn't know what I was doing half the time XD I don't have any set schedule in mind, so I'll just stream when I feel like it, but it will probably be in the second half of the week (Wed-Fri).

Musings

My Disjointed Gallery

I realized not too long ago how very scattered my gallery is. Yui Hirasawa (Errr) [V5] Until recently, I haven't had any real focus in what I upload, even though I may have been drawing a certain type of thing *cough*YGO*cough* a lot offline. A glance in my gallery offers you original art, informational posts, commissions, and a mix of fanart...and then there are the sketches, graphics, photos, and memes...

Thinking about all of this, it's amazing to me how many of you have watched me even though my gallery is only just starting to have a theme to it. I have no idea why you've watched me - I've just been a scatterbrained kitty uploading all the random things ;v; But thank you very much! Bro hug   I appreciate every one of you ;v;

The Woes of Tagging

For many years my participation in the YGO! fandom (whenever I say "Yu-gi-oh/Yuugiou/YGO" I always mean the Duel Monsters series) has been solely offline. Primarily I drew fanart on paper, and wrote fanfics on paper and the computer, never uploading a lick of it to the internet. The only realm I observed online was fanfiction, because most fanart I found aside from doujinshi was drawn by six-year-olds who...needed more practice ;v; So a lot of my YGO fandom experience has been my own creation and that of fanfiction.net and similar sites.

Even the way I refer to each character is shaped by fanfiction, and more specifically the fanfiction of 2006 and earlier, which has presented more of a problem than I thought it would when I began tiptoeing into the fanart side of the fandom ;v;

For example, "Yami" (as a name) to me always means "Yami Yugi" and that "name" sticks even though I know his actual name is "Atem/Atemu". (So when I say "Yami" that's who I mean.) I make a distinction between past and present, which isn't uncommon, but maybe less common in the fanart realm than in fanfics? Should I be tagging my art with his actual name then?? (The stupidest question ever, I know.) I say Malik, you say Marik, but we probably mean the same person... I think?

Matters have been complicated further since I started uploading to Pixiv and my tagging woes followed me. Suga Frustrated Icon

If you've secretly wondered why I call a character one thing rather than something else, or why I keep failing to tack on the "Duel Monsters" to the end of the series title, perhaps this will explain. ;v; In addition to the fact that I've only seen the English dub and read part of the English manga, and the subbed first series "season 0". One of these days I'll try to watch the Japanese second series "Duel Monsters"... I feel like a bad fan for not having watched it but it's so hard to find ;A; (A watcher sent me a link several months ago but I'm highly skeptical of streaming sites that aren't official.)

In other news, Happy Friday! :D

#17 - :iconkamikam70: !!! Congratulations! :happybounce: I'll be sending you a note shortly.
Thanks for entering, everyone!! It was fun seeing what you guys would order at the cafe~ >v<
Hopefully I can have more giveaways/raffles in the future!!

--------

To commemorate the release of my first artbook, Duel Cafe, I decided to hold a giveaway! And what better thing to give away (besides the artbook itself) than snacks?!?
Not just any snacks, mind you. Japanese snacks.

These came from the January and February Japan Crate boxes! I got one box free through Crunchyroll, and paid for the other one, specifically to do this giveaway! Because of my diet and food sensitivities/allergies, I haven't eaten anything from either of them (except for a single bag of potato chips)--nothing has been opened and everything is still within its expiration date, ready to enjoy. ^^

There was also a 30-day premium trial to Crunchyroll that I was going to include, but when I double checked it today, it had expired Dx

THE GOODIES:

  • assorted YGO! prints
  • a bunch of Japanese snacks
  • YGO! sketch request from me (one character, can be from any YGO! series)
  • *one copy of Duel Cafe (book only) *please note that this will ship separately, at the same time I ship preorders
  • YGO! cards (selection from my own collection)
  • and more!?

RULES/INFO:

:bulletgreen: This giveaway is open worldwide.
:bulletpink: Giveaway starts at the time this journal is posted and ends on May 4th, 2016, 11:59 PM CDT. Winner will be announced on May 6th, 2016.
:bulletblue: You must be 18 years of age or older to participate OR have your parent/guardian's permission to enter (since you'll have to give me your address if you win).
:bulletgreen: In addition to public announcement, I will contact the winner through the means they entered. (For example, a deviantART winner will be notified via note, Tumblr via ask, etc.) Make sure your asks are open and your account isn’t private for the duration of the giveaway period.
:bulletred: No NSFW (R18+) accounts please. I can’t contact the winner if I have to cover my eyes when I visit their page! (This is primarily for Tumblr, since there’s no setting to disable showing NSFW content that I know of.)
:bulletpink: Winner will have 48 hours to respond; if they fail to respond then I will choose another person.
:bulletblue: You must follow the directions exactly. Failure to follow directions will result in a disqualified entry and no one wants that! Dx If you aren't sure of something just ask!
:bulletgreen: Sketch request will be subject to my commissions TOS. I will draw OCs, males, and females. I rarely open requests, so here’s your chance!

HOW TO ENTER:

Lucky number

N/A

Last thing I googled

I believe it was where I was trying to locate a post I had written on my blog about installing SAI. (I finally found it. It's titled "Compatible?" and the tag I finally found it through was "laptop". /facepalms)

Favorite fictional character(s)

My favorites tend to be main characters, but it does depend on the series. If you're interested in knowing my favorites in other series/books/movies, just ask! ^^ I tend to gravitate towards a group of characters (not necessarily in the same group of friends) but don't always have stand-out favorites, and if I do, it's often in pairs.

YGO! - *glares at you, crosses arms, and looks away* "Okay, let's get this straight! Yami/Atemu is not my favorite character! I...I just...draw him all the time..." *blushes*
(You may be laughing, but... I really am tsundere when it comes to him XD You have no idea how embarrassed I get telling people he's my favorite. It's not like it matters, or anyone cares, and I'm not the only one, so I don't know why I get so embarrassed XD;;; And then I want to punch him HAHA orz help)
Kaiba is probably my second favorite because, come on, he's Kaiba and he's amazing. Ryou is adorable. My favorites start blending into "groups" after that.
-----YGO! 5D's - Yusei

Haikyuu! - Hinata, Kageyama, Yachi, Oikawa, Kenma. Tanaka and Nishinoya are hilarious. Sugasocute I could go on. I haven't seen a character yet I dislike and I don't know why I'm not drawing more fanart besides the stickers I did last year since I seriously love this series SO MUCH!!!!

Naruto - Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura. Specifically pre-Shippuden.

Of course I love OCs too~~ Hehe

What are you wearing right now?

An ankle-length beige dress with a huge flower print; a pale-pink sleeveless tissue...what--pull-on? cardigan? not sure what it's called lol--held in place by a thin, teal, braided belt; socks; yellow/brown plaid canvas slip-on shoes; pink pom-pom hairties :D

When did you start this account?

Evidently July 3, 2008. I had one before that that I never used.

Amount of watchers?

307 watchers; some duplicate/dead accounts in there, I'm sure, but thank you everyone for caring to keep up with me and what I draw ;w;

What do you post?

I mostly post illustrations and sketches, with the occasional meme or character design. Subject varies widely, but most recently I've been uploading a lot of Yu-gi-oh!/Yuugiou fanart with or without my OC Urami because my love for the series reignited in 2010 and hasn't waned and I have to do something with all this art XD

Do you run any more blogs?

Yes! I have an official website, a Tumblr, and a Twitter and Patreon, if that counts. XD I'm also on Ameba but I hardly post there of late.

Do you get a lot of comments?

It depends on what you consider a "lot". To me, no. I've yet to have more than 4-10 comments/replies in my inbox at once.

Why did you choose this username?

I had gotten an email address in 2006 that was "fire_aangel" (fireangel and fireaangel were taken) so I just kept the same idea. It's the theme of an angel of fire. But make sure not to leave out the extra "a" or you'll get an account on here that isn't me XD I haven't changed it because I didn't want to confuse people, and since there's already an account on here using my penname (Suishou Yuki), I don't know what I would change it to.

Bonus as always:

When I read, the narrative/prose and the characters all speak in my voice. You know, the same kind of voice you hear in your head when you think a thought. Sometimes I'll re-read a section and imagine the scene with the characters' actual voices, especially if I'm writing and want to double-check the impact or accuracy of how a character would act or say something. But if I'm just reading through, it's all in my own voice.

Q. When will I get my order?
I typically ship orders once per week! If you’d like to stay up to date, please follow me on social media (and here on dA), as I will give updates on the status of packages there.

Q. Will you be selling copies at conventions?
Q. Can I pick up my order at a convention?

Yes! I will be selling the book at conventions as well.
Yes, you can pick up your order at a convention! Check the list of conventions I will be attending, and if you will be going to the same one, you can let me know in the note to seller comment box.

Yozaihou Urami

Urami Cinnamon by suishouyuki I Can't Cover Art by suishouyuki Urami's Birthday Sketchdump by suishouyuki

Fact 1. Urami was created out of a daydream, which wasn't much more than a passing thought sequence. In the daydream, she had no name, no background; not even a face since it was shadowed out. As such, it was very difficult to try to pin down her personality, and I still don't think I have it nailed yet.... As a result, she's ended up with a lot of similarities to me, though this happened completely unintentionally. In fact, it's only since last year, though the start of the editing process, that I started to realize we have any similarities at all. I go back and forth between greatly disliking Urami and liking her a lot, and I wonder if it's because of my dissatisfaction with plot or if I'm making myself aware of my own flaws. (That's good though? If there's a problem I need to fix it!) I guess it works if I go through a period of not liking her, because it's a lot easier to write Yami's POV towards her XD

Fact 2. She has the tendency to get on others' nerves, though it's mostly unintentional on her part. She either annoys people, or amuses them. This is largely in part because of her lack of social skills, but also because she speaks bluntly, without regard for how her words will come across--though she tries to be aware of the possibility of negative feedback because she knows she's KY.

Fact 3. Her childhood was full of fighting, so much so that she once had to see the local Juvenile Correctional Officer. She didn't realize why she was so full of anger and got into fights until after several long rounds of counseling--the loneliness and feelings of being useless and unwanted.

Fact 4. She is very passionate romantically, and once made aware of it, is scared of herself and what might happen. She refuses to get involved in such a way for quite a while, and even after she's married, it takes some time for her to let down that wall again.

Fact 5. Urami's severe need for (and obsession with) trying to get Yami to forgive her gets to the point where she often obeys him without thinking, forgetting the fact that she's her own person with the ability to make choices. One exception to this is when they're arguing/fighting--she ignores most things he says in that case.

Fact 6. When she was little, Urami once locked herself out of the house accidentally during a thunderstorm. This was back before she was given her own key and her mother was at home a little more often. It didn't take too long for her mom to find her once she realized she wasn't in the house, but Urami has had a bad "relationship" with storms ever since. The "Incident" later alters her feelings towards them again, and after that she can be seen sulking or acting melancholy whenever it rains.

**Fun fact** Urami has been called an "ame-onna", a term used to refer to a female who seems to summon or attract rain. Indeed, rain has shown up on several outings where Urami has been present, even when no rain was forecast for the day. Urami doesn't quite believe the superstition; rather, she feels like the weather is being sympathetic of her sadness and going to the trouble of crying for her.

Fact 7. Urami uses running as an outlet for her raw emotions. It was one of the things her counselor suggested doing that helped her stop getting into fights at school, and gave her a way to work off her stress without harming anyone or looking bad. Though at first she hated being labeled as a coward (because she would literally run away from the situation as soon as she got mad), in time she began to push the label away and enjoy running for the exercise instead. Over time, she became a calmer person and got into shape on top of that! Because of her experience with fighting and her years running, she has greater physical stamina and a higher pain tolerance level than the average girl her age.

Fact 8. She was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, and has lived there for roughly half of her life. The cooler climate of the northernmost prefecture in Japan acclimated Urami to cooler weather, thus she doesn't get too bothered by the cold. In fact, she enjoys it more than warm weather. It confuses people seeing her with bare legs in freezing temperatures, but she's just used to it. On the other hand, she finds it difficult to survive in hot weather, especially the humid kind, since even weather in the 60s (F) is a bit warm to her.

Happy New Year!

Thank you, 2015!

I've been incredibly busy this year! In fact, 2015 has probably been the busiest year I've had (outside of school, maybe). I worked part time (and later quit), attended three anime conventions, designed cookies, designed fabric patterns, received several commissions, finally published on FFN the first chapter of my fanfic, and dove head-first into my Duel Cafe artbook project!

There's so much more I wanted to do this year (I really wanted to make more birthday gifts for people!! And draw stuff for holidays like Halloween and Christmas) but just wasn't able to because I had to devote my time and attention elsewhere, but I'm so incredibly grateful for the opportunities, trials, and lessons learned. I'm also very thankful for everyone's support and encouragement. It means a lot ;w; It helps me to remember in difficult spots that there are people who like my art, and who appreciate and care about me. ;w;

I definitely feel that I have grown this year. I'm still a little shy/awkward when talking to people but I'm a little better at it now. I've been a lot more proactive and productive than I have in the past, which makes me REALLY happy, though I know I could be a lot better. And there are so many other things but I'm too sleepy to put them into words right now XD

2016 Plans/Hopes/Goals/It Would Be Nice If...

Making plans is natural and something we all do, but rarely does anything go exactly according to plan, so in the end it's rather ironic and funny that we still do it. Tomorrow, heck, even next hour isn't guaranteed, which is why living every moment in the Fruit of the Spirit, keeping the important things in mind, is so important... So rather than list out everything I'm planning, here are a couple of highlights:

:bulletpurple: January ??? - One of my patrons has been seeing these for a few months now, but I'm going to try selling some adoptables! It's kind of an accident, actually; I hadn't planned on selling them, but as they started to collect I realized I had no use for them apart from trying to fit them into my stories or making a new story just for them. I love every single design, but I think it would be good to see other people bring them to life.
:bulletpurple: February ??? - Storenvy update! New products will be added and my most popular print will be restocked in the large size.
:bulletpurple: March 1 - Commissions will be open again! I'm going to be including some new options and probably simplify the journal a bit more. Prices will remain as they are. ^^

That's it for now!
Thank you, God, for this year and all of the good things that happened; thank you for helping us through the bad things; thank you for helping me to keep drawing even when I feel super frustrated and would rather flip a table (figuratively speaking...probably).
Thank you, everyone, for your support as always, for all of your faves, comments, and watches. icon K-Hugplz by K-Hugplz  It may sound dumb or cliche but each one really does mean a lot to me ;w; I'm so happy to know that others like my artwork, even if it's an older piece I don't like anymore XD  (I'm looking at you, Neko Sasuke)

See you next year! Rin Waving Hands Icon
That means tomorrow.
Or today if you're timezones ahead of me.
Gotta love those timezones.

Duel Cafe + New Sketchdump!

Happy April!

[Updated April 1.]

:new: I just uploaded a new sketchdump! Make sure you're watching my Scraps folder if you want to get notified when I upload something there ^^
Sketchdump 2011 - 2015 by suishouyuki (Sketchdump) AU - False Future by suishouyuki (I also moved this one to Scraps)

:new: If you have been following me on Twitter, you will know this already, but last week I picked up the first proof for Duel Cafe! I made changes to some of the files so they would sit better in relation to the edge of the book and requested a new proof, so now I'm just waiting on that! I'm so happy to finally have something to show for all of the work (including the hard work of my guest artists!!). [Patron-only link, but feel free to browse the free posts if you don't want to become a patron, because I have some Duel Cafe previews shared publicly there as well!]

All the work for the preorder extras is done as well!! That's kinda what's been keeping me busy--that and miscellaneous other things I have had to take care of.

I mean... The hours I've spent researching shipping costs and methods for parcels like this international shipping, why are you so expensive?? /weeps It's definitely worth it, but my brain is tired by the end of all that research lol ;w; Not that I don't know how to ship stuff (I've shipped several things from my store and as gifts already); I just want to make sure I have reasonable shipping prices for heavier items, since this will be my first "heavy" item compared to things like prints. And any savings I can get I want to pass on to you! :bademoticon:

So... Waiting on printing is the current project status. Waiting is hard, guys Cry forever

Oh! Also, my store is closed while I'm updating everything in it! It's getting a rehaul and new products, so it will re-launch along with the artbook. Sorry for any inconvenience >_<

Born of a radical tournament idea, Duel Cafe serves as a place where duelists can improve their ranking before qualifying for the annual winter tournament. As for the weaklings who remain, let them eat cake. (It's really tasty.)

Not sick anymore!

Hi, everyone! Sorry for the silence lately Ritsu Tainaka (Don't go please) [V2]  I'm getting back on track! I was sick for a whole week combined with having other stuff that needed my attention, so I fell a bit behind, but progress is still being made~ I have definitely learned a lot already by doing this project... There's stuff I wish I had done in the beginning, or should have done, or shouldn't have done (lol).... But it's all a great learning experience and I'll definitely put it to use the next time I do a project like this. Doing this has not been easy and it's stressful at times. I've gotten a bit discouraged at points. Ritsu Tainaka (Boo) [V1] Even so, I'm glad I didn't let my fears win when I started, because it's also been fun! (Which is the point, so yay lol)

Anyway, Christmas is coming!!

Is everyone in the Christmas mood? Christmas- Pikachu Santa I've been falling in and out of the mood, but there are times like the wonderful moment of praise at the end of church service today where I really feel Christmas x3 I've been going around (like, to the store and stuff) wearing a Santa hat because why not? :giggle:
Oh, and we had an event at church today called "The Christmas Experience" (this is the third year, I think!) only this time I volunteered for camera help. Of course we walked around and participated as usual...and almost did Christmas karaoke but ended up not XD It was fun! I really liked it. And earlier this month we went on a tour of historic homes and businesses along a historic road downtown, which was really nice--even better than previous years--because there were more places on the tour (including lots we hadn't seen before) and we went earlier in the day so we weren't as rushed~ It's really nice getting to see historic homes decorated so beautifully.

This year we're having our Christmas on Christmas Eve since my dad has to work Christmas Day (I'm soooo excited for Christmas pancakes!!!!!  Adorable Girl Anime Emoji (Heart Dance) [V6] ), but Christmas Day is the official family gathering~ I'll...probably just end up drawing afterwards but hey XD
What are you doing for Christmas?Santa :la:

Stuff!

:bulletorange: I've changed my Patreon to monthly and shuffled rewards a bit! I still need to update the graphics and FAQ to reflect the changes, but I'd appreciate any support! Azusa and Yui (Can I has chuu) [V2]
:bulletblue: The large size for "Corporate Takeover" (this: Corporate Takeover by suishouyuki) will be restocked in February. :happybounce:
:bulletpink: Some other third thing o3o

(deleted the previous stuff to clean up the journal)</s>

If you comment, you must do the same in your journal, putting the tagger (me) and three pieces of my art on the first place.
The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!
